PC gamers who design for Electronic Arts’ pc game, The Sims 4, usually create properties that are either contemporary, or classic, or an eclectic combination of both. However, every once in a while you come across a designer who features all types of designs. And Simsomnia, or whathequacktv as she is also known as in The Sims 4 Gallery, is one of them. Everything from a classic Royal Castle to a sleek and sophisticated Bachelor Pad, a Tree House, and even a Hobbit House. For Breaking Bad fans, there is also a house inspired by Walter White’s house in the popular TV show.
As with other designers in Sims 4, the detail that Simsomnia puts into her designs is intricate and very well thought out. But then again, the most fun about playing designer in Sims 4 is also playing interior decorator.
Simsomnia has been playing The Sims since the release of the original game. But in those early days, she didn’t have her own computer, so she played at a friend’s house. But from that first time, she was hooked! By the time Sims 3 was released, she was designing on her own PC.
About a year ago she started uploading speed builds (that is a term for a video that is recording during a project, then played back at super speed so the build can be watched in a shorter period of time.), and tutorial videos to YouTube. She says she thought that no one would see that as impressive, but she was pleasantly surprised. The YouTube site not only promotes her designs, but she is also able to share valuable lessons for building houses, commercial properties and rooms. On YouTube, she goes by the name of Simsomnia ! Her videos recently reached a very high level of popularity among The Sims community, and she boasts over 600 subscribers and almost 20,000 views! The tutorial videos are quite simple, easy and straight forward. Each video takes about 10 minutes to set up, 20 to 30 minutes to film, plus about 15 minutes to edit. The featured video (above) is for an interesting concept house called The Underwater House. Can you imagine living in a contemporary, beautifully designed home where the lower level that contains the Master Bedroom is … under water?
In conclusion, Simsomnia has this advice to aspiring builders. “Don’t be afraid to think out of the box and just build what you like and what makes you happy.” Pretty good advice from a true Sims 4 artist.
