The day began with 6th seeded Pascack Valley defeating 11th seeded Academy of the Holy Angels 57-41. Pascack Valley led at the end of the first quater 18-12, but their big lead came in the second quarter. They worked hard and out-scored Holy Angels 20-8. At te half they lead 38-20. Holy Angels played tighter defense in the second half, but it was not enough to earn the lead. Pascack Valley take on the winner of Saddle River Day vs Westwood next weekend. Saddle River Day plays Westwood tomorrow at 3pm at IHA.
The second game of the day featured 2nd seeded Old Tappan and 18th seeded Indian Hills. Old Tappan defeated Indian Hills 54-38. It was closer early in the game, but Old Tappan pulled away shortly after the half. Old Tappan will take on the winner of IHA vs Ridgewood next weekend. Tomorrow IHA and Ridgewood will play at 1:30pm at IHA.
The third game of the day was a nailbiter played between 5th seeded Ramapo and 21 seeded Ridgefield Park. Ramapo won 57-52. Ridgefield took an early lead against Ramapo, 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. Ramapo regrouped between the quarters and came out stronger. They led at the half 27-24. Ridgefield Park tied up the game to end the third quarter, 37-37. The lead went back and forth between both teams until Ramapo secured a small lead with two minutes left in the game. This forced Ridgefield Park to foul to stop the clock and sent Ramapo to the foul line. Ramapo will take on Teaneck next weekend.
The last game of the day featured 4th seeded Teaneck and 13th seeded Northern Highlands. Teaneck won 56-38. Teaneck’s quick and aggressive defense caused problems for Northern Highlands. They trapped and had scoring opportunities off fast breaks. They also read the defense and artisically attacked the seams to score. Less than one week ago Teaneck fell to Northern Highlands 59-43 in a regular season league game. They clearly made multiple adjustments because they took an early lead and never looked back. Teaneck will play Ramapo next weekend.
