The purpose of the ego is to think and analyze life situations through free will choices and to pilot us forward on our Life Path, intentionally in peace, with higher-self guidance in the forefront…that is it in a nutshell. However, somewhere along the evolution of humankind the ego has lost its natural course and has taken on the role of controller.
The ego is merely the workhorse of the body, the engineer or the locomotive pulling us along life’s path. Its main focus is always on free will choice, which either keeps us on track or moves us through life in a series of never ending detours. This can be very confusing, especially when a person is deeply rooted in role identity beliefs and fear. Once someone is anchored in fear (as their normal way of living) it is very challenging to break away from this dysfunctional way of thinking. Fear is like a snowball that keeps growing, the more it moves down a certain path, the more momentum it picks up. However, this negative momentum can be overcome easily through meditation, which connects us directly with higher-self and eliminates dysfunctional thought for at least a few moments.
Following is an example of a person living life situation based upon role identity and separation from true reality:
Michael is an executive that is now middle-aged and has spent most of his life focusing on only one category of life – his Career. Therefore, he has been very successful in his role identity and being in charge at the office. However, this superficially allows him (his ego) to feel superior to others due to his responsibilities and stature. The rest of his life situation has been very unbalanced, which has caused a great deal of pain and suffering for those around him due to his egoist need to control. He works in an environment that was established back in the Industrial Age, which has not evolved to fit-in with the current Information Age and forthcoming Spiritual Age. Michael feels most comfortable when he is at work, because at work he is the boss and can actively control most situations.
Michael’s life is lived based upon a constant state of focusing on the worst that could happen, rather than being optimistic about what life has in store for him and those surrounding him. This dysfunctional way of living causes endless fear based stories in his daily life situations, especially outside of the office. Outside of work Michael feels lost and out of control, therefore, he is known to have a short fuse on the home front. This fear causes him to see life outside of work as a never ending challenge filled with drama and disappointments, which in turn makes everyone around him feel like they are walking on egg shells.
The ego is meant to be the piloting life force, guided by higher-self, for the betterment of humanity. However, when negative role identity enters the story, it becomes extremely difficult for the ego to overcome the temptations of the mind. If an imbalance occurs due to living life based solely on role identity, the ego will do what is best for only lower-self. This is commonly known as living life based upon being totally self-centered, without considering the affects on others.
When someone lives strictly from egoist beliefs, the body becomes inundated with fear and the whole bases of existence becomes survival; this in turn results in self-induced-stress and a prolonged feeling of victimization. For this type of person, it seems as though the world is out to get them. In their mind, no-one else can do anything right based upon their limited perspective. If they are not happy, it is their subconscious goal to make everyone around them as unhappy as they are…misery loves company. This eventually results in self-sabotage of each new relationship, and of course, someone else is always blamed for the relationship breakdown. This pattern will continue until something takes place to awaken this individual to the truth.
One of the best ways to awaken from this type of scenario is by simply spending a few moments each day in a peaceful, silent meditative state. The intent is to minimize the negativity brought on by self-indulgent thoughts and allow the inner peace to bubble up to the surface in the present moment. By increasing the energy vibration in this way it provides a glimpse of awareness that would otherwise be lost in the smoke screen of non-truth influence. This minor glimpse of merging the soul with the ego can be the catalyst for moving forward in life situation. By discovering acceptance of what is during periods of silence, it provides understanding and also allows the ego to move from fear to love…your true natural state of Being.
