The new fashion accessories, gun cases and mace, may seem like a sad comment on society. Until recently, accessories meant scarves, handbags and hats. Women went out of their way to find coordinating prints, contrasting patterns and matching colors. They reveled in displays of faux suede and leather, patchwork and paisley, mixed media and faux gemstones. Who would have ever thought there would be a market for mace to match your handbag and gun cases with all the class and style of an upscale boutique?
At a recent forum with an officer from the Community Action Team, mace was highly recommended for women who often drove and shopped alone. He referred to it as the ‘new accessory,’ stating that it could be purchased in as array of shapes, styles and colors. Fascinated, I purchased a hot pink palm size mace and attached it to my car keys. If I ever have to use it (which I sincerely hope I won’t) my attacker’s face will be hot pink, making him or her easily identifiable.
