Ah Deadpool, you finally have your own movie. A fourth wall breaking, gory, hilarious film that is now my favorite superhero movie. This film, which almost didn’t get made, is one of the most enjoyable movies I have ever seen. But let me get on thing out of the way, THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR CHILDREN!
As I said it is gory, raunchy, and has some of the most disturbing jokes I have ever heard. That didn’t matter to me, but if you think this will be a fun outing for yourselves and your kids you may need a visit from child services. But if you like Deadpool you pretty much know what tyoe of film you’re getting.
The plot of the movie is simple. Wade Wilson, an ex-special forces veteran, finds out he has cancer. He agrees to undergo treatment which will make him a superhero. It turns out they are instead making him a super weapon to be sold to the highest bidder. He escapes and goes to save the love of his life and get revenge.
Man did I have a good time at this movie. It starts out with some of the funniest credits ever, and ends with crazier credits. The jokes fly by at a mile a minute and while some aren’t as funny as they seemed more often than not they hit hard.
This is the perfect role for Ryan Reynolds. His sarcastic attitude is perfect for this role. I can’t think of anyone more capable. Morena Baccarin is also amazing as his perfect match Vanessa. She is perfectly capable of delivering the same type of humor as Reynolds and there verbal sparring was amazing. T.J. Miller was a great complement to the movie. He is just as hilarious as Reynolds if not funnier.
And the action was perfect. They mix hand-to-hand, gun fighting and wisecracks together perfectly. One thing though, if you’re expecting a giant save the world end battle like in thew Avengers movies you’ll be disappointed. This is a superhero movie on a smaller scale, which was refreshing considering how ever other comic movie has an over the top finale. Keeping it centered on Deadpool and his revenge made the movie just as enjoyable if not more than the Disney ones.
I could go on all day about Deadpool being one of my top three favorite comic characters, or gush for twenty paragraphs worth of praise, but I won’t. Deadpool rocked and I can’t wait for a sequel. Just don’t bring the kids, trust me there will be more uncomfortable questions than you want. Five Stars.
