New Years Eve comes around the same time each year. You know it’s coming and you still panic. What are we going to do? Where are we going to go? And who are we going to be with? It shouldn’t be that big of a deal, but something special about this holiday makes us submit to poor service, less than ideal food and rowdy crowds that seem to act like collective jackasses on this night.
If you’re looking for something different for next New Years Eve, you might want to give ballroom dancing a try out. This was the case for 2016. Rather than the usual fair of dinner, a movie or even a house party, you may want to find your local dance hall and see what they have on the agenda.
For a rather surprising evening, the Stardust Ballroom in Bellmawr, New Jersey had a party that included a nice buffet, party hats and horns, wonderful desserts, limited open bar and a DJ playing tunes all night. Don’t expect your latest rock n’ roll music. You won’t hear pop forty either. The music you will hear is all about dance. The waltz, tango, cha-cha, merengue, salsa, foxtrot, East and West Coast swing, Lindy Hop, and mambo are just a few of the types of music that abound at ballroom dance halls.
Do you really have to know ballroom dancing to enjoy this venue? Not really, because the good dancers do their thing while you scamper about on the dance floor. The only rule is that you don’t keep bumping into the other dancers. Being that it’s New Years Eve, the real dancers surly know that there are going to be many neophytes and clowns out and about. They will pretty much ignore you.
When you see how lovely formal dance looks with its charm and grace, you might be inspired to take some lessons so that next year you will actually join the ranks of good dancers. If you go with friends, that makes the evening even more fun than if you went alone. There’s also the chance you will meet new people.
Being that human nature dictates a comfort with others, most people will not venture out to this type of venue alone. A movie is much easier to go to alone. However, if you want to try something different for date night, go ballroom dancing. There are other types of dancing venues that include the traditional disco found in all of the casinos as well as at stand alone night clubs. Then there’s country western dancing that can be a lot of fun, however, just like ballroom dancing, you need to learn the various steps. Most country western dance halls offer lessons between the regular numbers.
There’s a huge perk for guys into the dating scene who know how to dance. High-end cruise lines offer free cruises to single men willing to dance with the lonely widow passengers. These cruises cost many thousands of dollars, and all you have to do is dance the evening away with some wealthy women. While it sounds easy, you have to move about the floor and dance with many women. You can’t show favorites. You are also required to have tea time, meals and attend other social activities with the guests. By the end of the cruise you may need a vacation.
If you go for this “free” cruise and expect to have sex, don’t count on it. The rules are strict about shacking up. It’s not allowed. To the contrary, you will be sharing a room with another gigolo just as horny as you.
