Fashion all started on the runways of New York, Paris and Milan, then it was delivered straight to your doorstep via the worldwide web. Now fashion is a constantly unfolding story as rising designers compete to gain fame and fortune and a title that requires hard work and plenty of ambition to achieve.
Amazon, one of the largest internet-based retailers in the United States, has launched a reality show on Amazon Video, taking the creations on the runway to even higher plateaus. The very first episode began on February 25, 2016 and can be viewed in its entirety by subscribing to Amazon Video.
The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund is an unscripted series with the ultimate goal of discovering the next generation of American fashion designers. Being chosen by the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue Magazine, is one of the highest accolades that an aspiring designer could ever ask for. Founder of this Fashion Fund, in 2004, is a fashion legend in her own right, Vogue Editor-In-Chief, Anna Wintour. She devotes herself to discovering new fashion talent.
There will be ten episodes of head-to-head design competition with the judges watching the finalists very closely as they unleash their creative energy. There may even be times when a judge or two pays one of the finalists a surprise visit to see how they are coming along on their collection in their own surroundings. There will be one grand prize winner and two runners-up. Not only will the prize be monetary in value, but, each of the lucky final three chosen will receive business mentoring from an established team of fashion industry professionals. They have valuable resources at their fingertips from planning to marketing to sourcing, production and exporting.
As they work their way to the top, the competition can be relentless, but, the CFDA is confident that the best of the best are up to the challenge and each of the designers have mastered the skills and the expertise to build an entirely new customer clientele.
The finalists each have their own style, their own individuality which is portrayed through their collections. Scott Studenberg and John Targon make up Baja East, designing ‘loose luxury’ for both men and women. Matt Baldwin is all about denim with that timeless yet modern appeal. Brother Vellies was launched by Aurora James who has made a name for herself with her unique African footwear. Cadet is Brooklyn-born by Raul Arevalo and Brad Schmidt. The designs that they create are a touch of classic silhouette inspired by post-war military academy era. Chris Gelinas gives us CG, womenswear with a luxurious look and a feminine feel.
