In I Corinthians 6:9, the verse says that fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, effeminate people and self-abusers shall not inherit the kingdom of God. It makes no mention about God’s rejection of transgender people that use the “other” bathroom during or after the completion of their sexual transformation. It should serve as a warning to those that idolize wealth and apparently those that masturbate, assuming that this is a form of self-abuse.
Christopher Brennen of the NY Daily News wrote an article on April 22, 2016 describing the outrage of Christian conservatives that Target has established a shared gender restroom policy. The article is titled “Conservative group boycotts Target after big-box store announces transgender bathroom policy”. Target issued a policy statement regarding the use of their bathrooms for employees and customers.
Target welcomes transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.
The American Family Association (AFA) is the leader of a petition signed by over 129,000 members protesting the decision by Target to allow transgender people to use the bathroom that aligns with their sexual identity. The AFA president, Tim Wildmon, expressed fears that men that had been sexually reassigned to women were a danger.
The policy poses a danger to our wives and daughters, and is exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims.
In the various states that have passed or proposed transgender bathroom laws, there has been no evidence to prove that transgender people pose a greater threat of committing sex crimes than cisgender (non-transgender) people. The greatest time of risk to transgender people occurs as the person is in the earlier stages of their reassignment when the person is identifying with their new gender, but is still apparently identified as being of their prior gender. There was one case in Toronto Canada where a man gained access to a women’s shelter claiming to be transgender and then committing rape and other sex crimes. This man had previously been convicted of sex crimes. The Canadian judge sentenced this man to an indefinite period of incarceration due to his threat to society. This was a male convicted sexual offender, not a transgender person.
Most people are not familiar with the surgeries involved in sexual reassignment from male to female or female to male. The National Institute of Health (NIH) provides descriptions of the female-to-male sexual reassignment, as well as the male-to-female sexual reassignment. The results of these sexual reassignments do not provide normal sexual functions for the sexually reassigned males or females. Transgender people go to the bathroom for the same reasons that cisgender people go to the bathroom, which is to relieve themselves.
The transgender bathroom conflict shows the level of paranoia and extremism that exists in the US over sexual identity. People that go through gender reassignment have made a huge decision that involves great expense, several operations, and major mental trauma. They should be allowed to choose the bathroom that conforms to their personal sexual identity.
While conservatives declare transgender use of toilets that meet their new sexual reassignment to be a public threat, the greater threat is against the transgender individual. One solution is to make all restrooms accessible to everyone. Bathroom stalls provide the privacy that prevents observation of those using the facilities from unwanted viewers. The attacks against the rights of LBGTQ individuals have been extended to where transgender people use the bathroom. Let them go in peace.
