This is one of those go-to desserts, as apple crisp is so easy to make that you can whip it up in no time. If you’re loath to make a pie because of the time commitment it takes to create a crust, here is an apple recipe that is the perfect substitute.
If you want to make baking with apples easier still, buy an apple peeler. This little tool peels, cores, and slices an apple in seconds. Any time you’re making a recipe that requires more than one apple, you will be grateful for this little machine. They are available everywhere – check out Target, Meijer, Walmart, etc.
The only problem with this apple crisp recipe is that it’s so good, it will be eaten quickly. Better make two of them or double the recipe!
Best Apple Crisp Recipe
Ingredients for the Best Apple Crisp:
- 4-5 cups apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- ¼ cup water (minus 1 tsp.)
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- ½ cup butter, softened to room temperature
- ¾ cup flour
- 1 cup white sugar
Directions for making the Best Apple Crisp:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Butter an 8 x 8 baking dish.
Place the sliced apples in the bottom of the prepared baking dish so that it is just a little more than half-full. Put the teaspoon of vanilla in a measuring cup and fill it with water to ¼ cup; sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apples. Then sprinkle the apples evenly with the cinnamon.
Combine the softened butter, flour, and sugar with a fork until the mixture is crumbly. Distribute the crumbles evenly over the top of the apples.
Bake for 45 – 55 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature.
