LA has been home to some incredible musical talents through the years. From the Go-Go’s to Guns N’ Roses, the essence behind rock ‘n’ roll has been setting trends across the board for generations. Places like the famed Sunset Strip have been known for its groundbreaking style where music meets fashion and today’s acts are no exception.
The band, Beauty In The Breakdown, with members: Chastity Ashley, Ian Alexander, Alexandria Reyes, and Tim “Sonix” Rouse, take on a sound and a style that embody all that inspires. Their unique melodic masterpieces are designed to convey the very fabric of who we are.
Chastity Ashley, who rocked North America as a percussionist and vocalist for Duran Duran’s “All You Need Is Now Tour” is lead vocalist for Beauty In The Breakdown. Performing with a long list of music’s elite such as Hole, Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine, and Alice in Chains, this red-haired beauty says that for her, style and fashion merge into one as a form of self-expression. Listening to everything from pop to reggae, to punk, rock and hip-hop, music was her main influence in how she adopted her fashion sense which she ended up fusing into her own personal style.
Ashley’s husband, Ian Alexander, is the dynamic guitar playing and songwriting master of the electropop band. Originally signed to the hard rock label, Gridiron Records, Ian found success touring with the San Diego metal band called, Unset. Falling in love with music at a young age, Ian channeled his inspiration through the love of his father and found his passion for playing guitar was able to shine a positive light on any situation.
The two met while playing on the road and in 2014 began a new journey, forging with bass player Alexandria Reyes and keyboardist Timothy Rouse, AKA Sonix “The Mad Scientist”, who is known for his daring use of cross-genre production and musical engineering capabilities.
Produced by the talented Sahaj Ticotin, lead singer of the rock band, Ra, Beauty In The Breakdown delivers a sense of style where culture and collective integration combine through music, fashion and experience.
Chastity says that trends are important because it shows us where we’ve come from and where we’re going. It’s a reflection of who we are and what we’re feeling. Fashion, like music, is a form of expression. Your own unique experience can be expressed by what you choose to share with the world. Never “fit in” when who you are is destined to stand out.
