Famed South Florida’s urban pop artist Sergio J. Quinonez’s will be unveiling his newest work on Saturday, April 30 at FatVillage ArtWalk inside C&I Studios located at 541 NW 1st Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As reported in an April 22, 2016 press release, the new installation by Surge, as Quinonez is known by, will be a spray paint work creation on a California King sized GhostBed mattress. The event is celebrating the official launch of Nature’s Sleep’s GhostBed mattress Art of Sleep contest.
Nature’s Sleep wakes up the world once again in combining the beauty of art with the beauty of sleep with its GhostBed mattress and “Art of Sleep” contest. As with its past art competition, this contest seeks works of art inspired by personal perceptions of sleep. The “Art of Sleep” is commissioned by Marc Werner, CEO and Founder of GhostBed by Nature’s Sleep.
“Surge’s works have the same vibe as GhostBed.” Werner continues, “Our affordable online mattress alternative appeals to people whose lives embrace art, comfort and durability.”
Werner dreamed up this contest after viewing an installation of mattresses turned into beautiful colorful works of art at an Art Basel Miami exhibition. The Art of Sleep Contest seeks entries that showcase creativity as well as the fun and the unexpected. The consumer sleep artist entries can be as simple as showcasing a photo of artwork propped on a mattress, or a portrait of one sleeping in bed. The one stipulation is that the art celebrates sleep innovatively, with imagination and good taste explains Werner.
“We’re inviting consumers to create any work of art, from a painting or drawing to a photo that revolves around sleep, a bed or mattress. “We don’t expect you to paint on your mattress, but you can.”
Contest entries will be accepted beginning on May 1, 2016 with submissions due by midnight on May 24, 2016. Consumer Sleep Artists’ submissions will be voted on by the public from May 25 through May 31. Cash prizes and GhostBed mattresses will be awarded to winning Sleep Artists. The grand prize winner will receive $1,000, second place will receive $500 and third and fourth place winners will each receive $250. All top four winners will also receive a GhostBed mattress.
Surge explains, “Sleep is a universal human need that spans all time and space, and getting a good night’s sleep is essential for the creative process,” continuing, “I found that using a GhostBed as my canvas fed my creative process and gave me a unique format to publicly express my personal perception of sleep through my art.”
Everyone is welcomed to vote for their favorite artwork by registering on the GhostBed website. All voters will be entered into a drawing to win a GhostBed mattress as well. GhostBed will announce the winning Sleep Artists at the close of the contest.
