This Saturday, April 30th, is a day to celebrate – it’s Independent Bookstore Day. This is the day to visit one of the 400 independent bookstores operating in the United States. Why are indie – and local – bookstores worth celebrating? They are our neighbors. They connect us as a community. They are there when we are in a pinch and need a last-minute gift, a hard-to-locate book, or just someone to chat with when we can remember only bits and pieces of a book we have read or want to read.
Wondering which bookstore to visit in the San Francisco Bay Area? Sharon Levin has created a comprehensive list of bookstores and the parties each are throwing for this big day.
