The 2016 Cadillac ATS brims with the sort of performance cred that was once only available in the best compact luxury cars from Europe. Not only is the agile compact sports sedan impressive under the hood but in the looks department, designers have given it exterior styling that hits the eyes just right.
Posed curbside, it is immediately obvious that the ATS has great bone structure which makes for a serious statement design-wise in a sea of sameness. The compact Caddie has aerodynamic/bold body styling, sharp creases and angles that make it a standout. It also has sleek daytime running headlamps that seem to almost sliver along the sides of its hood that nicely accentuate, the prominent front grille. Edgy side mirrors, sleek LED-infused vertical lighting in the rear and an overall ready-to-pounce stance, makes the ATS an aggressive looker.
Step inside the ATS’s cabin and it is immediately obvious, how the automaker has paid exemplary attention to detail. The warm and fuzzy cabin, exhibits an exquisite collection of eye-pleasing materials like exotic woods, metallic and suede-like accents. The extra bolstered, power-adjustable, optional sports seating, optimizes lateral support. A Cadillac hallmark you’ll find in the ATS is the comfy seating and sumptuous interior. The driver-focused sleek and futuristic looking dash boasts integrated technology crafted materials like the available CUE interface with voice controls, an 8-inch touchscreen that also features wireless cell phone charging, Bluetooth audio, rearview cam, USB ports and HD radio. The ATS’s base 7 speakers with satellite radio or optional 9 speaker Bose surround sound audio, offers quality in-car listening experience. Two bugaboos in the ATS however is it’s slim head and knee room in the rear and a volume control slide bar on the dash that is temperamental and takes getting used to.
Sitting in the driver’s seat of the ATS is just outright pleasurable. It certainly has got pep plus! The sedan handles like a pro. It is an impressive flat cornerer. A solid suspension offers a sure-footed ride, responsive steering and on-point braking. The ATS is well mannered over road creases, no out-of-control dances over potholes. Hands down, the lightweight (3,400 pounds) five seater’s well-tuned, fully independent suspension, delivers nimble handling, and aggressive power besting engines that can compete with some of its German rivals. There are three engines available for the ATS and all come standard with rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2.5 models are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that cranks out 202 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque; 2.0T models are turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinders with 272 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and the 3.6-liter V6 models produce 333 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque.

One of the coolest safety offerings as part of the sedan’s Safety and Security and Driver Awareness package is the Safety Alert Seat that vibrates the driver’s seat bottom to warn of an impending collision and the direction in which it’s coming from while driving and parking. A comforting safety tidbit about the ATS is that in government crash testing, it received an overall score of five stars out of five, with five stars for overall frontal crash protection and overall side crash protection.
