Ted Cruz takes on the bathroom law that is causing all kinds of issues in North Carolina including various performers backing out of shows in that state due to that ban. The bathroom law is such a hot-button topic today and by taking the stance of backing up this law along with his reasons for his thoughts, it looks as if Cruz doesn’t have a clue as to what he is talking about here.
Cruz is supporting the North Carolina governor’s push to have people use the public restroom that aligns with their gender on their birth certificate, reports MSN News on April 14. Cruz’s reasoning for this is, “men should not be going to the bathroom with little girls.” This statement seems to suggest that Cruz doesn’t understand the meaning of transgender and he’s willing to back a rule that shuts out a population that he knows absolutely nothing about.
He doesn’t seem to realize that under this ban men are going to use the bathroom with little girls and that would be transgendered men. They will have no other choice but to use the ladies room, so by keeping this ban, little girls will see men in the bathroom.
Still Cruz is saying that North Carolina is within its rights to oppose this ban, according to The Washington Post. “Men should not be going to the bathroom with little girls.” this statement makes absolutely no sense and it certainly doesn’t pertain to the transgender population. A “man” shouldn’t use the ladies public restroom and this is what the transgender community is vying for by wanting this ban lifted.
A transgender woman is a woman and she shouldn’t have to use the men’s room. Cruz seems to be imagining a man getting dressed up as a woman and then using the public bathroom marked for ladies. No one wants that, people just want to use the bathroom that coincides with their gender and how that gender came to be shouldn’t be the issue here. It’s nobody’s business!
The only way a man is going to use the same bathroom as a woman is if a “man” walks into the restroom. A transgendered woman is a woman and she should not have to face the embarrassment and maybe even some risk by walking into a men’s room. The same goes for a transgendered man.
Cruz is not advocating to ban men from the girl’s restroom, he is advocating to ban transgendered folks from using the bathroom of their gender. That’s wrong and again, dangerous for the transgendered community.
Cruz just doesn’t get that by supporting this ban, there will be men, transgendered men, who will be forced to use the ladies room. Then what he wanted to avoid, “a man going to the bathroom with little girls” is going to happen because that transgendered man has no choice but to use that bathroom! He didn’t think this one out too well before speaking!
Maybe Cruz should just stick to comedy, like the skit he did with Jimmy Fallon above.
