Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, a couple of hate spewing hucksters, have just sunk to new depths. Now the Republican pair have dredged their wives into the muck of the 2016 elections, with Trump lashing out and threatening to “spill the beans” on Ted’s wife Heidi Cruz, and Cruz tweeting back that Trump is a “coward.”
According to CNN on March 24, the Twitter feud started when a Facebook ad was released that showed Trump’s wife, the 45-year-old Slovene-American Melania Trump, posing nearly nude. The photo was captioned with: “Meet Melania Trump, your next First Lady. Or, you could support Ted Cruz on Tuesday.”
The ad, seen here, used a photo of Melania from a GQ shoot back from 2000. The advertisement was produced by an anti-Trump PAC called Make America Awesome, which has no known connections with the Cruz campaign. It is rather odd to think about the former bikini model wandering the White House halls among its decorative art and historic adornments, yes?
Although when asked by the NY Times what her role would be if Donald were indeed elected as POTUS, Melania replied: “I would be very traditional. Like Betty Ford or Jackie Kennedy. I would support him.” And Barbara Walters was evidently so impressed with her intelligence that she delivered this somewhat non-compliment: “Maybe because she’s so pretty, we don’t expect her to be as smart as she is.”
Still, a thin-skinned Trump, who feels the need to retaliate and launch social media spasms whenever anyone says something negative about him, tweeted back at Cruz after the ad was released:
Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!
It’s not clear what beans Trump may have, but in response, Cruz dubbed Trump a “coward,” tweeting: “Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you’re more of a coward than I thought. #classless.”
Trump continued though, this time scouring the Internet for an unflattering photo of Heidi Cruz, and tweeting it out, captioning it with: “No need to ‘spill the beans’ the images are worth a thousand words.”
Cruz, taking the high ground, if such thing is even possible in this puerile ping pong of insults, tweeted: “Donald, real men don’t attack women. Your wife is lovely, and Heidi is the love of my life.”
He also spoke with CNN yesterday, saying: “If Donald wants to get into a character fight, he’s better off sticking with me, because Heidi is way out of his league,” the Texas senator said. “It reveals a lot about character. It reveals a lot about class… That should be beneath him.”
On the campaign trail, Heidi spoke about the photo flap as well: “Well, as you probably know by now, most of the things, many of the things others say are not based in reality,” she said Wednesday in Wisconsin. “I have one job on this campaign, and it is to be helping Ted win this race. And it is, I think, the easiest job in the world, and that is to speak the truth: what I know about my husband, our family, myself.”
