Ted Cruz found out the hard way that if you are targeting your opponent with a campaign ad, you probably don’t want to use a porn star as the actress doing your bidding. Amy Lindsay appeared in Cruz’s “Conservatives Anonymous” commercial which, was basically meant to bash Marco Rubio, but the tables turned when Lindsay’s prior career highlights were discovered.
According to MSN News on February 12, the previous credits in the actress’ portfolio were from the movies, “Erotic Confessions,” “Carnal Wishes,” “Secrets of a Chambermaid” and “Insatiable Desires.” And no, these are not past campaign ads, but you may see a few titles that would fit somewhere in Washington DC’s modern history.
It didn’t take much time at all for Lindsay’s resume to pop up online, but the Cruz camp had no prior knowledge of the soft porn movies the star of their campaign commercial had under her wing. She’s never been in an XXX film, but Lindsay was under the impression that everyone involved in making this ad knew about her past credits.
According to Fox News, the ad, which was taking a jab at Marco Rubio over illegal immigration, was pulled once the Cruz camp found out about the adult film star. Ironically the ad was to bash Rubio’s thoughts on immigration which includes a vetting process. When the Cruz camp attempted to do this ad without a vetting process, they got to see first hand just how important this piece is for staving off future blunders. It seems they learned the hard way that a vetting process is an important step for many venues in life!
Rick Tyler from the Cruz camp said that Lindsay answered an open casting call and the production gave her the job, but she was “not vetted” by that company. Once word got out that the Cruz ad bashing Rubio was using a soft porn star as the actress, this didn’t fare well for Cruz, prompting his camp to pull the ad. They are replacing this commercial with another and it’s probably a safe bet to say a vetting process will be part of the next casting call.
Rubio has a very detailed immigration policy, which includes implementing a mandatory eVerify system, reports CNN News. This is a system for vetting prospective immigrants coming into this nation. Rubio puts it simply by saying, “If we do not know who you are and why you are coming, you are not getting into America.” Again, Cruz might have learned just how important this piece is when saving yourself from regrets later on.
