BRANDON, FLORIDA – A new album featuring the Little Richard Band has recently been released. The album, which was mastered at Sound Czech Studios in Brandon, contains nine never before released and re-mastered songs by the legendary band.
If you were to ask someone to name some of the pioneers of early rock n’ roll, it wouldn’t take long for a handful of artists names to come up. Artists such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, and Buddy Holly most likely would all be mentioned among the list. Another artist that would certainly be mentioned is Little Richard. After all, not only was Little Richard an early pioneer and innovator of rock n’ roll as a whole, but he also played an important part in changing the way black artists appeared and performed on stage and in the studio as well.
As talented and innovative as all the above mentioned artists were in the early days of rock n’ roll, they wouldn’t have made as huge of an impact in the world of music had it not been for the backup bands that supported them. A select few bands from that era were considered the best of the best in the industry at that time. One of those bands that lead the pack was Little Richard’s band. Thanks to a legendary producer/songwriter’s vision, along with a local, Tampa Bay studio owner’s help, a new generation of rock n’ roll fans will now get to experience the Little Richard band’s innovative sound on a new album featuring re-mastered and never before released music.
The project started in 2015 when producer, Keith Winslow, had the idea of releasing an album of never-before-released songs from the Little Richard Band. Winslow looked at several potential recording studios and labels to take on the task of mastering the songs and releasing the album, but couldn’t find one that shared his same vision for the album. Finally, Winslow met with Tim Goodrich at Sound Czech Studios in Brandon. Sound Czech Studios is a recording studio and independent label that has worked with such local artists as Yoshi Gish, Bryan James, and Dark Savvant. Upon meeting with Goodrich, Winslow quickly realized that Goodrich shared his same vision for the project, and decided to go with Sound Czech Studios.
Winslow and Goodrich quickly went to work on producing the new album, and brought on Rick White (Shockwave Productions), a well known sound engineer in the Tampa Bay area, to take on the task of mastering the songs. The result is an amazing album of re-mastered, never before released songs from one of the pioneering bands of early rock n’ roll.
The new album, simply titled “The Little Richard Band,” was released on December 15, 2015, five days after Little Richard celebrated his 83rd birthday. The album features nine never before released and re-mastered songs including “Try To Help Your Brother,” “Funk Proof,” “Latin X,” “Treat Her Like A Lady,” “People Don’t Care No More,” “Good Good Girl,” “Iron Horse,” “California I’m Comin’,” and “Dew Drop Inn.”
The album features such legendary artists as Little Richard (vocals/piano), Robert Rozell (bass), Jessie Boyce (bass/piano), Melvin Wonder (guitar), Bobby Caldwell (guitar), Tony Matthews (guitar), Johnny “Guitar” Watson (rhythm guitar/piano), Jessie Boyce (rhythm guitar/piano), Walter Pope (piano), Duane Winslow (piano/flute), Ernie Watts (piccalo/baritone sax), Bobby “Youngblood” Forte (tenor & alto sax), Freeman Brown (drums), Clydie King (backup vocals), Payton Penniman (backup vocals), and Keith Winslow (backup vocals).
