In the last few years, Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale has been home to more classic rock concerts than any other venue in the Phoenix area. This week, Talking Stick Resort announced that three new concerts have been added to their 2016 schedule. Tommy James and the Shondells will perform in the Showroom at Talking Stick Resort on June 25. Gregg Allman comes to town, also in the Showroom, on September 17. Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award winner Cyndi Lauper takes the stage in the Talking Stick Resort Grand Ballroom on October 7.
If the name Tommy James alone hasn’t shaken some of the cobwebs of your memory, perhaps a list of his hit songs will. His 23 gold record singles include, “Crimson and Clover,” “Mony, Mony,” “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Chrystal Blue Persuasion” “Hanky Panky” and “Draggin’ the Line.” And if you are too young to remember Tommy James’s version of his songs, his music has been covered by artists such as Prince, Joan Jett, Billy Idol and Bruce Springsteen.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band, Gregg Allman is a pioneer of southern rock. With Allman Brothers Band hits such as “Melissa,” “Midnight Rider” and “Whipping Post,” along with solo efforts such as “I’m No Angel” and “Queen of Hearts,” Allman has a rich catalog of music to showcase.
Cyndi Lauper’s appearance at Talking Stick Resort is part of the second leg of her “Detour Tour,” which promotes her newest album, “Detour,” scheduled for release on May 6. With “Detour,” Lauper takes on country classics from the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s. But Lauper is best known for her 1980’s work including “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” Expect some old and new when Lauper performs.
In addition to the acts that were announced this week, Talking Stick Resort’s upcoming classic rock schedule includes several other concerts. The Rides, featuring Stephen Stills, Barry Goldberg and Kenny Wayne Shepard are at the Showroom at Talking Stick Resort’s on June 4. The Happy Together Tour returns to Talking Stick Resort’s Grand Ballroom on July 16 and features Flo and Eddie of the Turtles, Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night, Mark Lindsey of Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Cowsills, The Spencer Davis Group and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. Talking Stick Resort’s Pool venue finds Foreigner performing on October 16.
Tickets for all shows are on sale now, except for Cyndi Lauper. Tickets for Cyndi Lauper’s show go on sale Friday, April 29. Tickets for shows at Talking Stick Resort can be purchased online through ticketmaster.com, in person at the Talking Stick Resort box office and by phone at (480)-850-7734.
