Once again there are some mighty fine live shows to attend in the Atlanta area and here is a list of some of the better ones.
Dave Franklin & Jay Gonzalez @ Little Vinyl Lounge 12/18
This intimate evening of music is going to be a good one. In the Little Vinyl Lounge, (downstairs at the Star Bar) David Franklin and Jay Gonzalez will be playing their songs for all that want to come listen. Franklin’s folk infused music touches on a wealth of subjects as his melodic vocals dance through your auditory senses. His mellow songs are mesmerizing and when you hear him sing live it is an enjoyable thing. Gonzalez known for his part with the Drive-By Truckers, knows his way around a good song. Sweet pop melodies flow freely from his solo music as his songs beg for people to sing-a-long. These two singer/songwriters should put on one heck of a show. If you want to kick back, enjoy a beverage or two and support a couple of local musicians then this is the place to do it.
The Sundogs @ Smith’s Olde Bar 12/18
It is that time of year when Atlanta rocker’s The Sundogs pull out their Tom Petty shoes and treat Atlanta to a night of Mr. Petty’s tunes. If you have never experienced this show I highly suggest you go experience their take on Petty’s catalog. With hundreds of songs at their disposal The Sundogs roll through a set list with songs from every corner of Petty’s career. Early tracks, late songs, deep cuts and Christmas songs are all fair game and the band does one hell of a job playing them. The show should go on into the wee hours of the night with a packed house singing along with every word. Go check this out it is always an entertaining evening of music.
Webb Wilder @ Smith’s Olde bar 12/19
With a new record out for consumption, guitar virtuoso Webb Wilder makes a stop in Atlanta. The man delivers music that pulls from every part of the blues and he is at home playing cavernous theaters to the smallest juke joints. Saturday night he will be playing at Smith’s Olde Bar treating folks to songs from his latest record as well as his classics. He will be sharing the stage with the Original Cruise-o-Matic Reunion Show so it should be a great night of music.
Chickens & Pigs @ The EARL 12/20
Once again the EARL will be hosting the Annual Keith Richard’s Birthday Bash with none other than local favorites Chickens & Pigs. Blues flavored rock is what they do best and as they tear through a selection of songs from all over the musical spectrum you never know who may end up joining them on stage. This is a fun night of music each and every time they celebrate Keith Richard’s birthday. Get out to the EARL, support local music & local music venues and enjoy some killer tunes.
The Whigs @ Aisle 5 12/19
Atlanta’s favorite sons return to town for an evening of in your face rock at Aisle 5 in Little 5 Points. Big bold fuzz filled guitar licks and pop infused melodies lead the way as these guys tear through a selection of tunes from their multiple acclaimed albums. The Whigs are in their environment when they take the stage giving listeners a high octane show that does not slow down until they are out of gas. Aisle 5 is going to be packed so I suggest you get their early and find a good spot for the evening, oh and bring your ear plugs because it is going to get loud.
