It’s an exciting week for Survivor fans, as not only are we heading into the merge episode tonight, but it was announced a few days ago that Survivor was renewed by CBS for another two installments (at least), through Spring of 2017. That means there will be a guaranteed Season 33 and Season 34! But not to get too excited, let’s re-calibrate our focus on what’s in front of us currently. With just 11 castaways still remaining in the game, ladies and gentlemen, the merge is upon us. Here is the official episode synopsis from CBS:
Episode 7 – “It’s Merge Time” – A Tribe merge reshuffles the game and its alliances. Also, a brutal individual immunity challenge keeps castaways on their toes, on SURVIVOR, Wednesday, March 30 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Analysis. Beyond the news that the tribes will all merge into one tonight, the biggest news of all comes via the Episode’s video preview (see it above). Jeff Probst makes an “unexpected visit” to the beach, and he announces that “once again, the game has changed.” Usually Probst does not show up at camp unless there is a major emergency or if it is of vital importance, so this most assuredly is a game-changer. I was reminded of last season when Terry Deitz was pulled from the game due to a family emergency back home…could that be happening again here? Not shown in the “reaction shot” to Jeff’s message to them is Aubry, Tai and Cydney. Am I reading too much into that?
Hoping that there are no major evacuations tonight, the game is about to get real now that the tribe’s have merged. This is huge news for the bro-alliance of Scot and Jason, reunited against all odds. Jason now has an Idol, and it appeared that Scot had grown very close with Tai. If that’s the truth, the three would have two Idols in their alliance, which we know this season means that they can combine them to form a “Super Idol.” That alone could be enough to sway Tai into working with the two guys, who are also aligned with Cydney.
With 11 left though, six will be needed to form a majority, and from the preview, it appears that the Beauties will be the swing votes. That means Michele, Nick and Tai may find themselves getting pulled in different directions. If Tai ends up staying tight with Scot, that could pull his former Beauties Michele and Nick to his side, meaning that the Brains – Deb, Joe, Neal and Aubry, could be the ones on the receiving ends of some votes tonight. Jason’s “We’re just shovin’ geeks in lockers” comment doesn’t exactly bode well for any of them.
On the other hand, now that Individual Immunity is in play, will everyone really allow behemoth’s Scot and Jason deep in the game, knowing too that they are close to one another?
Make sure to check out the all-new episode tonight on CBS and come back here later for my full recap, analysis and of course, my exclusive interview with the eliminated castaway(s) tomorrow!
Very Important Note For Next Week! In 13 seasons of professionally covering Survivor, I have not missed a live episode…until now. Next week (the 4/6 episode, Episode 8), I will be gone celebrating my wedding anniversary with my beautiful wife, and because of this, there will be a few changes. First, there will STILL be an Episode Preview article that will appear on Wednesday morning, but next week there will NOT be an Episode Recap Wednesday night. When I return (by Monday, April 11th), I will post an Analysis article on Episode 8. Also, due to this leave, my Exit Interview with the voted-out cast-away will NOT take place on Thursday like usual…CBS however, has been kind enough to reschedule an interview with me for the following week, so I will post it by the following Monday or Tuesday.
So to recap: Next week there will be a Preview article as normal on Wednesday morning, but no Episode Recap article Wednesday night. And then there will still be an Episode Analysis article and an exclusive Exit Interview, but instead of these posting on Thursday per norm, you will have to wait until the following Monday or Tuesday. Everything will return to normal for the 4/13 episode, Episode 9. Got it? Good!
