The Travelrest Ultimate Memory Foam Neck Pillow combines the magic of memory foam with a unique contoured design to support the neck better than the more common beanbag or inflatable pillows that can be seen draped around the necks of weary travelers.
The Travelrest pillow looks different from other pillows in that looks bulkier than most and sports a contoured design that has a scooped out space for the back of the neck, then swoops out around the sides. A Velcro strap allows the pillow to be closed around the front of the neck as desired. The pillow is covered in a soft velour fabric except for a large rubberized panel in the back that provides a non-slip surface against an airplane or automobile headrest. The cover has a zipper so it can be removed for laundering.
Memory foam, originally developed by NASA in 1966, was released to the public in 1988. Used in mattresses and pillows, memory foam contours to the body and then bounces back slowly to its original shape. In the Travelrest pillow the foam contours to the shape of the head and neck but is dense enough to provide true support. The pillow comes with a stuff sack that allows the pillow to be compressed to one-fourth its size, making it appropriate for travel.
The Travelrest pillow was tested on a long automobile and plane ride. The pillow, stuffed in its sack, fit into a daypack used as a carry-on bag. When removed and allowed to expand, the memory foam was pliable yet maintained its exact original shape. The velour covering felt soft against the skin and the pillow overall was quite comfortable. The Velcro strap allowed instant closure to make it fit snugly around the neck. When dozing, instead of the neck bending at an uncomfortable lateral angle, the head could tip slightly to one side or the other and then rest comfortably on the top edge of the pillow. The scooped out design in the back prevented the head from feeling like it was being pushed forward. The non-skid surface on the back panel prevented the pillow from sliding around on plastic or leather surfaces.
After removing the pillow from the stuff sack, it appeared that it would never go back in. However, the pillow in its expanded state was mashed back into the sack with little trouble. The cinch-cord provided needed closure to prevent the compressed pillow from popping out again. In its expanded state, it is doubtful that most people would consider it ideal for travel, but in its compacted shape inside the bag it suddenly looked practical to stow in a carry-on bag while in transit. The cord on the stuff sack could also be clipped to the outside of a pack or suitcase for easy access.
The Travelrest Ultimate Memory Foam Neck Pillow is one of the best neck support pillows on the market. It’s larger than most neck pillows, which means that it can wrap completely around the neck and cradle the head. The density of the supportive foam prevents the head from flopping over at an acute angle when dozing or sleeping sitting up.
Travelers looking for comfortable neck support on long journeys will appreciate the superior design and materials used in the Travelrest Ultimate Memory Foam Neck Pillow.
