On Sunday I tuned into the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Downers Grove’s live service at 9:30 am Central Time. Though if I wanted church more often, I could watch the video on demand every day of the week and request a DVD of Pastor Scott to Go, previous sermons for the soul from the senior pastor.
First Congregational UCC Family Network offers their Sunday Service live that can be seen anywhere throughout the world as long as you have Internet access on a computer, iPad and even your smart TV. This is not an excuse to stay home with your feet propped rather than become actively involved in a community church. However, for those who are home bound and not local, Pastor Scott’s message, the highly recognized Guided Path musicians and talented singers as well as amazing children’s programs will bring comfort to those with tired minds.
Many of the viewing audience talk of the technologically advanced broadcast that features creative programming of the various ministries at the church as well. The Family Network also includes the radio show Cross Walk with Dr. Gina Rossetti discussing topics from finding God and gun violence. Pastor Scott to Go offers his sermons that talk about allowing God to heal.
What a beautiful broadcast recorded for those who travel wide and far, the grandparents or special friends of the church programs who cannot attend this local community church of mission and grace to see cherished performances of those they love.
Religious communities have given those true beginnings to careers and passions through many that consistently volunteer. And by doing so learn their purpose. After interviewing several involved in different ministries, it is exciting from a career coach perspective to learn that it all began at the church, temple, or wherever one worships. After singing in the children’s choir, then pursuing voice and piano lessons from the Director of the Music Ministry, it was no surprise that music was young Melissa’s college major.
After volunteering to learn communications and media for some of the online worship services, Jim could not wait to pursue radio and television in school. It was becoming a Sunday School teacher first that spurred the love for teaching and becoming an elementary teacher for Samantha and the list goes on and on. Not only that, but the Pastor and many church administrators have offered recommendations and networking opportunities adding great potential to a resume for the young and more experienced.
