Have you ever had the chance to meet a horse? Think about Mister Ed (because a horse is a horse of course of course) or Silver from the Lone Ranger. Some people might associate horses on a farm, grazing in green pastures or with racing in the Kentucky Derby. Horses are more than the status symbols we associate them; they are regal and intelligent creatures. A Nation that is becoming more humane by the day, it is crucial that we continue to protect animals in a way that puts a value on their existence. According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) Florida is in the process of “voting on a government spending bill that could allow taxpayer dollars to fund horse slaughter” and it is fundamentally essential to stop this action.
The Reality of Horse Slaughter
Horse Slaughter is a cruel and unimaginable act that no animal should have to endure. Horses are sentient beings (they feel pain just like you and me) and become stressed and scared when put through traumatic situations. No animal should have to die an unpleasant death.
Take ACTION Today
Please urge your U.S. Representatives and Senators “to include language to defund horse slaughter in the Agriculture Appropriations bill.” You can find your local legislators at this link LOOK Up Legislators. You can also learn more by clicking this HSUS Link. Please email, call, or post on Facebook to you representative or senator. Take a moment and share this information with friends, colleagues, and family. The more noise we make about keeping horse slaughter out of Florida they better for the horses.
Last, I encourage everyone to visit a farm sanctuary where horses, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, and cows all live in peace and harmony. Getting up close and personal with these animals is therapeutic and eye-opening. They have personalities, character, and feelings just like you and me.
Meeting these conscious beings is an experience that will leave you with a sense of joy in your heart.
Take a day and shut off the world with all of its electronic noise and spend a few hours on a farm. I promise you will not regret it for one minute.
