Someone’s rock star dream is about to come true – Stone Temple Pilots are looking for a new singer. The group has been without a vocalist since Chester Bennington quit manning the mic in November 2015 to re-focus on Linkin Park. The band had hoped to reunite with former and original vocalist Scott Weiland but his recent and tragic fatal overdose has made that impossible. Looking to move forward into the next chapter of their careers, STP is now taking video submissions, which they hope will lead them to the talented guy or lady they are looking for. However, the band recently told Nikki Sixx during an interview on his SIXX Sense podcast that simply being able to sing well is not quite enough to get you the part. “There’s a lot of criteria to be met, not only talent-wise, but also, you know… do we want them as a member of the family” Dean DeLeo explained. The members are optimistic about the search and feel that they will be able to find the right person to lead them through 2016 and beyond. “We want greatness, male or female” Dean told Sixx.
For those who want to try their hand at an audition the band has uploaded instrumental versions of three tracks, asking that each person auditioning sing on two of their choice. Submissions can be sent in here. Below is an official statement from the remaining members of Stone Temple Pilots regarding the search.
“A year of hope, optimism, and most importantly, new music! We are immensely proud of all that we have been able to share with you over the years. Music, music, music. We very much want to continue doing that, but that’s going to take a little help from all of you. As you know, prior to the untimely passing of our brother in arms, Scott, we had been working with the incomparable Chester Bennington. What you also likely know is that having Chester front two bands of this size and scope was too much for one man to be able to do and so regretfully we had to move onto a new chapter together. This is where you come in…
We are officially announcing that we are seeking a new vocalist to front Stone Temple Pilots. We’ve already heard from many talented people, but want to make this an opportunity for many more so we’ve set up a way for you to do just that. If you think you have what it takes to front this band, record with this band, and tour with this band, we would dig hearing from you. No one will ever “replace” Scott, that was never the intent. The intent is for Stone Temple Pilots to continue on, to evolve, and to do what we do… make music! We look forward to seeing you.
Robert, Eric, Dean”
