As if the thousands of free comics were not enough, as if the dozens and dozens of comic book creators coming were not enough, as if three different locations were not enough – The Comic Bug is making their Free Comic Book celebration a must attend event courtesy of Stan Lee. Announced on The Comic Bug’s Facebook page on April 27, Stan Lee the father of the Marvel Age of Comics will be coming to the Free Comic Book Day celebration, May 7, 2016, and signing at the Culver City Teen Center.
The Comic Bug won Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo’s contest way back in October of 2015 to get an appearance from Stan “The Man” by selling the most tickets to Los Angeles’ premiere comic and pop-culture convention. Now the appearance and signing of Lee is coming to fruition. Free Comic Book Day attendees at any of The Comic Bug’s three locations on May 7 will be entered into a raffle. 100 winners will be selected at 2 pm and at 4 pm they will get to meet Stan Lee and get his autograph.
The raffle can be entered at the newly remodeled Culver City store at 4267 Overland Ave, the Culver City Teen Center at 4153 Overland Ave, or at the original store at 1807 ½ Manhattan Beach Blvd in Manhattan Beach. The doors to the stores open at 10 am so get there early and get your name entered into the raffle. When else are you going to get your chance for a free Stan Lee autograph and be the envy of all of your comic and pop-culture friends?
Even if you miss out on the chance to meet the legend that is Stan Lee, The Comic Bug is still throwing a great party in celebration of comic books, which is why everyone is there. Over 10,000 comics have been ordered to be given away to fans that come by their stores. Each location will have creators signing autographs and doing sketches all for free.
The Comic Bug will also debut for the first time ever two exclusive Comic Bug variant covers for two of the hottest comics on the stands. First off, BOOM! Studios’ “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Pink” gets a cover by the supremely talented Siya Oum, who also did The Comic Bug’s exclusive Spider-Gwen variant a year ago. Oum will be in attendance at The Culver City Teen Center to sign copies.
And on the weekend where Marvel’s Black Panther makes his big screen debut in “Captain America: Civil War,” the character’s red-hot new comics series’ debut issue, “Black Panther” #1, gets an exclusive cover by Mike McKone (“Teen Titans,” “Avengers Academy.”)
All three locations will also feature food trucks to keep your bellies full while you meet and greet all the creators. And don’t forget the cosplayers to pose with and take pictures with so you can tell your friends you met Wonder Woman and Supergirl.
For a complete list of creators who will be signing and where they will be check out The Comic Bug’s Free Comic Book Day event page and RSVP ASAP to make sure they know you are coming.
