There still is a lot of time to catch some sun and Spring Training games around Florida. There’s nothing better than an afternoon in the Florida sun watching your favorite MLB teams play in the Grapefruit League.
Here’s a look at some my favorite places and where to stay:
Hotels: Sandpearl Resort, Opal Sands Resort
Teams: Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees
Location: Sandpearl Resort and Opal Sands Resort are two luxury beachfront properties with white beaches and great views of the Gulf of Mexico, as well as creative coastal cuisine. Each is convenient to attend games during Spring Training. The hotels are less than 10 minutes from Bright House Field, the temporary home of the Phillies, and Florida Auto Exchange Stadium, where the Blue Jays pack the stands. The New York Yankees’ training camp at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa is less than 25 minutes away (www.sandpearl.com) and www.opalsands.com). .
Sandpearl Resort’s Offer: The Beach & Baseball package includes two-nights accommodations in a room or one-bedroom suite with daily breakfast for two, one official MLB baseball for a favorite autograph, two jumbo hotdogs and soft drinks at Tate Island Grill, Cracker Jacks, and a one level room upgrade if available on the day of arrival.
Booking Details: Book Sandpearl Resort’s offer (booking code 1Baseball) by March 29 for stays through March 31.
Hotel: Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa
Teams: Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals
Location: Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa is north Palm Beach County’s only oceanfront hotel, located on a stretch of powder-white Atlantic coastline just 10 minutes from Roger Dean stadium — the official spring training home of the Miami Marlins and the wildly popular St. Louis Cardinals.
Offer: The resort’s Play Ball package (booking code: Ball) includes 10 percent off accommodations, daily breakfast for two, and a welcome amenity that consists of a Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa beach ball, box of Cracker Jacks, baseball and red sharpie pen for snagging players’ autographs. As an added bonus, guests who present game tickets at check-in will receive a $10 token that can be used towards stadium snacks (www.jupiterbeachresort.com).
Booking Details: Book by March 31.
Hotels: The Resort at Longboat Key Club, Lido Beach Resort
Teams: Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees
Location: Sarasota is a hub for the popular season of MLB Spring Training with teams hitting at local stadiums, including the Baltimore Orioles at Ed Smith Stadium (10 minutes away), Pittsburgh Pirates at McKechnie Field (25 minutes away), as well as the Tampa Bay Rays at Charlotte Sports Park (45 minutes away), and New York Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field (50 minutes away). In addition to baseball, Sarasota is known for the beaches… so baseball fans can retreat to relaxing coastal paradises after the games. One luxury resort option is The Resort at Longboat Key Club – the only Four-Diamond resort in Sarasota. This 410-acre property accommodates travelers who want to keep the games going after the stadium, with 45 holes of championship golf and 25 tennis courts. For those who prefer to simply bask under the sun, Lido Beach Resort is famous for its pristine beach and 112 recently-renovated suites (www.longboatkeyclub.com) and www.lidobeachresort.com.
