The arrival of spring suggests that it’s time to start decluttering and cleaning out your house. This year, I also decided to give my skin a good spring-cleaning as well. But as I become more and more aware of the toxic chemicals used in many of our skin care products, I made it my mission to find skin products that are natural and chemical free.
I found 4 skin products that I love, and from now on cannot live without!
My first pursuit was to deep clean the skin, all the way down past the outside layer of my face. I have a Clarisonic, but that only gets the top layer of skin. What I found to get a better cleanse was the Skin Perfecter by Le Mieux Cosmetics. It is a handheld tool that deep cleanses, exfoliates, extracts clogged pores and blackheads, and infuses skin with serums and topical treatments. Instead of a brush, the Skin Perfecter has a stainless steel spatula that sends out an impressive 28,000 vibrations per second, which allows for effective deep exfoliation. I also love the tingling in my face after I am done using it, which makes me feel like it’s still working after I am done using it. I usually tend to break out once a month, and after using the Skin Perfecter, I am happy to say that I have yet to break out. Three cheers for the Skin Perfecter! I will be using this one for a long time!
My next goal was to find a product that I could use as a weekly face mask that firms, but without the toxins and chemicals. My search resulted in the discovery of Farmhouse Fresh. Just as the name suggests the ingredients in this company’s products are farm fresh, as well as paraben and sulfate free. I tried the Pudding Apeel – Tapioca + Rice Active Fruit Glycolic Mask and I loved it. The mask goes on easily and leaves a silky feel behind. I partcualarly liked the use of honey which is great for skin, as well as green tea and honey suckle to help soothe irritations.
I also saw that they have a natural body balm, and also tried their Plum Chiffon All Purpose Balm. I love the delicious scent, as well as the fact I can use it anywhere on my skin, even my lips since it’s natural. The balm now lives in my daily handbag, and gets used every day. Since it’s natural, I have no reservations to use it on my kids’ skin as well, and they adore the scent to boot.
Lastly, I wanted to find something all natural that works as a topical treatment in case of any pesky breakouts. I had heard of sea buckhorn seed oil before from a naturopathic doctor and decided to try it out for myself. I found Seabuck Wonders, a company that produces USDA Certified Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified products. They source sea buckthorn oils only from the Tibetan Plateau, that has the environment to give the sea buckthorn plants an extraordinary bio-defense mechanism that breeds substantial life-giving nutrients for enhancing health and beauty. Much to my surprise I saw on the label that this oil was also safe to ingest, and at that it had a whole slew of benefits ranging from strengthening the immune system, to helping with inflammation (hence the topical breakout treatment), to boosting cardiovascular and liver health, along with much more. I tested it on a small ‘imperfection’ that I could see was developing (before I tried the Skin Perfecter), and applied it directly to that location before bed. My skin didn’t feel much different after application. When I went to bed that night I reapplied and arose the next morning to my skin looking less red in that area and the impending clogged pore looked much less irritated. I used it again for 2 more nights and was happy to see that my skin irritation was gone, and my face looked clear. I will continue to use this for any future irritations, as well as add to my immune-system boosters when I start to get a cold. Win-win!
All in all, I am very happy with my spring cleaning for my skin discoveries and will continue to use these products for much longer than just spring!
