We all know the famous movie quote, “There’s no place like home.” Actually, if there was one convention that could have put together a “Wizard of Oz” reunion with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin-Man and Cowardly Lion, it probably would have been Spooky Empire. Unfortunately all those cast members are dead and there are some things Petey and Gina Mongelli can’t pull off. However, one thing they can do is take us all back home again and that’s exactly what they are doing April 1-3 with Spooky Empire’s Retro. The famed horror convention returns to its roots at the Wyndham Orlando Resort.
Some of you may be confused because you’re used to Spooky Empire’s Spring show, May-Hem, taking place in the month of May. What’s with the April 1-3 dates, is this some kind of April Fool’s joke? To clarify, here is a small history lesson on how the first May-Hem took place. Bruce Campbell was someone Spooky Empire had their eyes on for many years and so did their fans, but scheduling conflicts made it impossible to bring him to their annual show in October. Always putting their fans first, Spooky Empire formed their first show outside the month of October to let Bruce Campbell meet his legions of fans in Orlando. Now Spooky Empire is shifting their Spring show again in order to bring rock legend Alice Cooper to the convention for the first time ever!
Alice Cooper does not do many conventions, if any at all, since he is still selling out concerts to this day. It is a testament to Spooky Empire that they were able to land him, and their reputation was strong enough to lure him to come. Now fans will be able to meet him in person, shake his hand, get his autograph, get a little one-on-one time with him and attend his Q&A as well. That will be a full house event!
Spooky Empire Retro did not stop with Alice Cooper. Anthony Michael Hall attended the first May-Hem too and he’s coming back, but not alone. April 1-3 will also be a “Weird Science” reunion as cast members Ilan Mitchell-Smith and Kelly LeBrock will be joining AMH that weekend.
The mob will also be invading Orlando April Fool’s Day Weekend, but you better not joke around with the likes of Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), Frank Sivero and Drea de Matteo (The Sopranos) or you may end up swimming with the fishes. Just kidding, but it’s always refreshing to see Spooky Empire continually thinking outside the box to bring great guests to this show. To see a complete lists of this year’s guests, click HERE.
Some years May-Hem features a zombie walk other years it did not. Spooky Empire Retro will kick off with a zombie walk that will see the undead cross International Drive once again and be led by the Hare Krishna Zombie from “Dawn of the Dead”, Mike Christopher. Since the convention is returning to the Wyndham that means the return of the legendary pool party on Friday and Saturday night. If you have only recently started to go to Spooky Empire events or if you have yet to attend your first, this is the way to do it. Get ready for a party of a lifetime and don’t be surprised to see some of the celebrity guests stop by to party too. To see the complete lists of events, click HERE.

As always, Spooky Empire Retro will feature a huge vendor room that will carry every kind of merchandise that you can imagine and some you can’t. The tattoo festival returns too with over 20 artists to put whatever kind of ink you may be looking to put on your body. This is truly going to be a once in a lifetime event! One not to be missed! People not only travel from all over the country to come to a Spooky Empire event, they come from the world over. If you come to Orlando April 1-3, you’ll find out why.
