Coinciding with Tax Day on April 18, April is “Stress Awareness Month” and Spire, a wearable that tracks your breath and promotes healthy living and greater mindfulness, is gearing up to release a new in-app coaching series in partnership with Thích Nhất Hạnh’s Buddhist monastery, Plum Village.
Contrary to popular belief that stress relief stems from minimizing screen exposure, Spire continues to prove that devices are powerful tools for achieving mindfulness–and they are not alone in this theory. Recently, Spire announced their partnership with one of the most influential Buddhist teachers alive, the legendary monk Thích Nhất Hạnh who agreed to help Spire users achieve even greater mindfulness in their daily lives. Thích Nhất Hạnh’s Plum Village is released the first of a series of five mindfulness courses on the Spire app, which is free for users. This week only, Spire is also offering $50 off on all Spire purchases to celebrate this partnership!
Spire prides itself on being the only wearable device that increases mindfulness and productivity and its creators are happy to be working with global mindfulness teacher, author and zen master, Thích Nhất Hạnh and his Buddhist monastery Plum Village. Essentially, the partnership will see the release of a series of mini-courses integrated with the Spire tracker to help customers apply mindfulness to their thoughts, feelings and actions throughout the day.
“Spire is honored to partner with Thích Nhất Hạnh’s renowned Plum Village monastery as we share a mutual desire to help people not just understand mindfulness but live it,” said Neema Moraveji, Ph.D., Spire co-founder and chief science officer. “The monks and nuns of Plum Village are living legends who helped catapult mindfulness from meditation into how we speak, eat, and breathe. Now, Spire customers can get an intimate experience with Thích Nhất Hạnh’s mindfulness practices, giving them more insight into the feedback they get from the Spire app.”
The free series of mini-courses guide Spire customers to apply Thích Nhất Hạnh’s mindfulness techniques in daily activities to experience more calm, less stress and better relationships. Each mini-course will be released in the Spire app over the next two months, with the first kicking off today, an introduction to mindfulness called “Mindful Breath.” Additional topics include eating, using digital devices, rest and sleep, and love. Each mini-course can be completed in the first week.
“With awareness and gentle reminders, each one of us can experience moments of calm, peace and joy throughout our day. We, at Plum Village, are very happy to have this opportunity to share mindfulness practices developed by our Teacher Thích Nhất Hạnh. We have confidence that advances in science and the skillful use of technology, such as Spire, can help us be more mindful and live with more awareness. When we take time in our daily life to pause, come back to our breathing, and generate the energy of mindfulness and compassion, we can overcome challenges, increase our well-being, and cultivate inner freedom. We can do this wherever we are and whatever we are doing. When we are in contact with the wonders within us and around us, we become happier and kinder, and can find peace and balance for our self, our loved ones, and for the Earth.”
To date, Thích Nhất Hạnh has published over 100 titles on meditation and mindfulness and has sold over three million books in the United States alone. He is a pioneer in bringing Buddhism to the West, founding six monasteries and dozens of practice centers in the United States and Europe. He has built a thriving community of over 600 monks and nuns worldwide, who, together with his tens of thousands of lay students, apply his teachings on mindfulness throughout the world.
The Spire Mindfulness and Activity tracker is the only wearable designed to increase calm and mindfulness throughout the day. The device, based on research conducted at the Calming Technology Lab at Stanford University, senses and provides feedback on your state of mind by tracking your breath. Elegantly designed and unobtrusively worn, Spire rests on the hip, torso or bra and was a recipient of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award. The accompanying Spire app features real-time notifications, insights and guided mini-meditation sessions that make mindfulness accessible throughout the day. The companion app is compatible with iPhone 4S, iPad 3rd Gen, and newer versions of each.
Spire’s in-the-moment notifications makes becoming mindful more attainable throughout the day while in-app breathing exercises and guided mini-meditation sessions promote the modification of negative behaviors. Through consistent, unobtrusive, and actionable insights, Spire users take an active role in making positive, reflexive improvements towards a greater holistic health and well-being. Spire charges on an included wireless charging pad, features a 7-day battery and is washer proof.
Retailing at $149.95, the Spire stone sensor, wireless charging pad and iOS app is available at the Spire website, the Apple Store and Amazon. The Thích Nhất Hạnh Plum Village package is available for free to download within the Spire app on April 10th, 2016.
