According to We Got This Covered on Wednesday, details about an “X-Men” spin-off movie, “X-Men: The New Mutants”, was teased by producer Simon Kinberg. More specifically the update regarding the film had been about the characters from other previous works. The script is in the process of being developed, with Josh Boone to direct.
As of now, it’s said to be its own unique animal, much like “Deadpool.” So Fox seems to be following the mantra of staying true to the nature of the character and following to the beat of its own drum. Kinberg touted the project as going pretty well, offering up its own method of presentation. A “different vibe”, according the producer.
“They’re doing a really nice job of it, and it’s a really cool one, because in many ways, like “Deadpool” was so different from the mainline “X-Men” movies, New Mutants.”
Since the group’s origins in the comic books are aimed at young adult mutants not old enough to be X-Men, fans could speculate where this could be going. Perhaps it may even be relate-able to real life young adults and their issues as well as challenges. That being said, that’s the vibe where Kinberg and his crew may be going.
He then mentioned how some of these youngsters with special abilities had already been in previous “X-Men” movies.
“Traditionally, the New Mutants have some characters that cross over from the mainline ‘X-Men’ movies. As we are going, I would say it’s likely that you will see some familiar faces.”
Keep in mind, Boone is a rather talented director and according to Deadline Hollywood, could go down the path of the upcoming “Spider-Man” franchise reboot.
“X-Men: The New Mutants” has no known release date just yet.
