As Simon Cowell, his girlfriend and their 21-month old son slept, one of the most feared events in anyone’s home was taking place. Someone broke into the house as everyone was sleeping.
Cowell’s first response was that he feared for his son’s safety when his security guard woke him in the wee hours of Friday morning to tell him they had just been burglarized. While the Cowell family slept, someone rummaged through their home and made off with money and jewels.
Cowell didn’t even want to discuss the jewelry and money missing, saying that the insurance company will take care of what is missing. He was just thankful that everyone at home was alright. According to AZ Central News on December 6, the first thing Cowell did when he was told that someone had been in the house while they slept was to run into his son’s room to check on him.
Much to his relief, the baby was asleep in his bed. The 56-year-old was shaken just knowing someone got into the house with the family in bed sleeping. Cowell said, “Apart from the fact someone broke into my house and stole my stuff, which is scary, it could have been worse. Thankfully no one was hurt.”
According to Sky News today, the star’s home is in Holland Park, which is where the break-in happened with the intruder taking cash and jewelry. The Cowell home is equipped with a security system, security guards and guard dogs. Cowell said about the dogs, “But we have the worse guard dogs in the world.”
The media mogul reiterated to the press that it wasn’t the fact that the perpetrator or perpetrators stole his belongings, the most frightening thing for him was that they got into his home with his family inside. Cowell has immediate plans to boost his security.
”What’s more concerning is how we stop people getting into this house. Wherever you live someone can get in. Maybe I have to get bigger guard dogs,” he said while talking to reporters.
Update December 7:
With all the security that Cowell has in place, how did this happen? Cowell had bodyguards on duty, but the one inside the house was in the bathroom as the break-in occurred, according to The Spread It today. With that bodyguard indisposed for some time during the wee hours of the morning on Friday, Cowell and his family were in danger with the intruder in their home as they slept.
It was the quick thinking of the guard outside the house who saw a man running across the lawn with a bag that saved the day! Cowell called this bodyguard a hero for running after the intruder and retrieving their items.
The guard, named M’Bathonha Mendes, saw the guy running and gave chase. The intruder finally dropped the bag as he fled. Besides half a million dollars in bling, that intruder got Cowell’s passport and other items that were saved by the quick thinking guard.
As far as the bodyguard who was inside the home, he was fired. Cowell also said he has the “worst guard dogs in the world,” as they didn’t stop the intruder from getting in. The security at the Cowell home is elaborate, with a security system, guard dogs and bodyguards both inside and outside the premises.
Still somehow this intruder not only managed to get in, but he also got a hold of some of the family’s personal items. Cowell is putting more security on and possibly new guard dogs after this break-in. While the security guard who was in the bathroom was fired, Mendes is getting a nice Christmas bonus, Cowell told reporters.
