ShoBox: The New Generation will televise and feature Rob Brant (18-0, 11 KOs), taking on Decarlo Perez (15-3, 5 KOs), for the vacant WBA-NABA middleweight title, Friday, Jan. 22, at the Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona. The card is being presented by Roy Jones Jr. Boxing, in association with Greg Cohen Promotions and Salita Promotions. The featured bout between Rob Brant and Decarlo Perez will be the main event and is scheduled for 10-rounds, the undercard will also feature some local Tucson and Phoenix talent as well.
Rob Brant, you may remember defeated Louis Rose last Oct. in Phoenix, capturing the vacant WBC Continental Americas middleweight title. The bout was the first 10-round bout Brant had fought. It was a very tough fight fought by both fighters, but in the end, Brant was awarded the win by majority decision.
In his last bout this past August, Decarlo Perez pulled off an upset unanimous decision win over Juan Ubaldo Cabrera in Las Vegas. The unbeaten Cabrera was highly favored and dominated in the early rounds, only to be schooled by Perez in the later rounds.
The co-main event will have Jarrell Miller (15-0-1, 13 KOs), facing Donovan Dennis (12-2, 10 KOs) in a 10-round bout for the vacant WBA-NABA heavyweight title.
Jarrell Miller, known for his aggressive style and hard punches is making a statement in the heavyweight division. He seeks a world title and is willing to fight anyone who will fight him, in 2015 he fought five times. In his bout last October in Phoenix, Miller just destroyed Akhror Muralimov by a third round knockout.
Donovan Dennis hasn’t fought since last may when he suffered a TKO loss to Andrey Fedosov in the eighth round of the 2015 ESPN Boxcino Tournament. Dennis put on a heck of a show and grit, getting knocked down in rounds 3 and 7 and again in round 8, forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight.
The hard-hitting super welterweight, Bakhtiyar Eyubov (9-0, 9 KOs) battles the crafty Jared Robinson (16-2-1, 7 KOs), in an 8 round bout. This should be an exciting bout to watch, Eyubov hails from Kazakhstan and is simply a ring beast. Robinson has been through some wars and will surely be tested when he meets Eyubov in the ring tomorrow.
In an 8 round lightweight bout, Demond Brock (10-3, 3 KOs) will battle Samuel Teah (7-1, 2 KOs). Brock is a scrapper who can throw some serious blows, he will need to use his skill when he faces Samuel Teah. Teah is a smart fighter who has the ability chip away on points as the fight goes on.
The local portion of the card will feature Keenan Carbajal (9-2-1, 5 KOs) of Phoenix, facing Thomas Herera (4-15-1, 1 KO) of Tucson in a scheduled 6 round featherweight bout.
Tucson’s Alfonso Olvera (5-2, 2 KOs), will finally fight before the hometown crowd when he trades blows with Colbert Lozoya (7-11, 1 KO) of El Paso in a 4 round super lightweight bout. Olvera is an exciting fighter to watch, in his short career he has traveled to other states to fight, often on short notice. This kid has skill and should be placed on your boxing radar.
Rounding out the undercard will be two young fighters making their pro debut. Carlos Cordova of Tucson enters the ring to face David Courtney of Phoenix. Although this will be Cordova’s first fight as a pro, he has been impressive as an amateur.
