Shaylyn Ammerman’s lifeless body was found by a river, not far from her father’s home on Thursday after a massive manhunt for the missing 1-year-old ended with a tip to the police. The coroner ruled Shaylyn’s death a homicide and her cause of death asphyxiation. Over the weekend a 22-year-old man was taken into custody as “a person of interest” and today that man, Kyle Parker, is due in court on charges of murder, rape, child molesting, kidnapping, strangulation and aggravated battery.
According to Fox News on March 28, originally Parker faced charges of failure to report a dead body and unlawful disposition of a body in the connection to Shaylyn’s death. According to the court documents, Parker admitted to raping, killing and leaving Shaylyn’s body in the woods.
Local ABC News reports that Shaylyn’s death was horrific. “The doctor who performed Shaylyn’s autopsy specializes in pediatric autopsies with sexual battery and molestation. She told police this was the worst case of sexual trauma she had seen in her career.”
Parker, who was at the Ammerman home the night that Shaylyn went missing, is describe as a “friend of a family.” Shaylyn’s grandmother put her to bed around 10 or 10:30 on Tuesday night, then checked on her around midnight before turning in for the night herself. At that time Shaylyn was sound asleep.
When the family woke on Wednesday she was gone. Police questioned everyone at the house and combed the area via a manhunt that consisted of 100-plus members of various law enforcement agencies. Parker was originally very calm and cool about the missing child and said that he knew nothing about her whereabouts.
When Shaylyn’s grandmother, Tammy Morgan, found out that police had Parker in custody she addressed Parker through the media saying:
“You know that you did it and then be so straight, and calm, and cool and just lie for a day. A whole 24 hours of lying, when you knew where that baby was.”
Parker’s mother, Christina Patton, released a statement regarding the arrest of her son in connection with Shaylyn’s death:
“Our hearts are heavy and filled with grief over this beautiful little girl’s passing. It is a difficult time for all families involved.”
Shaylyn Ammerman suffered a death so horrific, that even a pediatric autopsy specialist said this was the worst case of sexual trauma that she’s ever seen. Police now have the man responsible behind bars and he is due in court in court sometime today. He will answer to these charges in court via remote viewing from the jail he is in, according to latest reports.
