Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, a restored Shaker community and living museum located in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, has announced their special events calendar for 2016. There’s always something fun in the works at the 3000-acre Shaker Village, home to 34 historic buildings, a farm filled with animals waiting to meet guests, stables and horseback riding adventures, access to the Kentucky River, an inn that offers rooms, suites and private cottages, and a place for tasty eats called The Trustees’ Table. But the below-listed events make a visit to the site even more special.
Breakfast with the Babies
Yes this is a family-friendly event but the babies referred to here are actually farm animals. Taking place every Saturday in April, guests can enjoy a kid-friendly buffet breakfast followed by a personal introduction to the newest additions to the Shaker Village farm family, including ducklings, lambs and kids (baby goats.)
Chamber Music Festival of the Bluegrass
Taking place May 28-29, this festival will present world-acclaimed musicians performing in the Shaker Village restored barn and the 1820 Meeting House. Featuring the New York Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the program will be led by CMS artistic directors David Finckel and Wu Han.
Well Crafted Brews + Bands Festival
Set for June 18, this event will showcase both locally-made craft beer and music provided by some of the area’s favorite performers. This event raises funds for Shaker Village’s sustainable environmental initiatives and programs.
Shaker Village Craft Fair
There’ll be plenty of crafty people on hand for this Aug. 6-7 showcase of works by the area’s elite artisans and up-and-coming artists alike. Attendees can shop for or just marvel at a large selection of crafts that include jewelry, woven rugs, needlecraft, glassware, basketry, leather goods, floral designs and special Shaker reproductions.
Set for Sept. 10-11, this celebration of harvest time includes live music, bobbing for apples, meeting the farm animals, apple butter tastings and lots more down-home fun for persons of all ages.
Also on the schedule for later in the year are the Blessing of the Hounds (Nov. 26) and The Holidays at Shaker Village that runs from Dec. 1-31 with the exception of Dec. 24-25 when Shaker Village is closed.
