I just searched Google for “chastity pledging” in hope of finding some organization promoting chastity that might be interested in using my movie Love Waits, which obviously deals with the topic of celibacy, as a tool to aid in their mission. Believe me, if anyone needs help it’s somebody promoting abstinence these days. Much to my dismay, I scrolled down page after page of results without finding any such organization but certainly encountering all kinds of indictments against chastity. The term cult was thrown out there a few times. The cult of celibacy? Are you kidding me? People gave reverse testimonies about how their making a chastity pledge almost destroyed their lives. I was totally stunned. In the world in which I grew up, chastity was pretty much considered basic decent behavior. Girls who “put out” were considered “bad girls.” Boy has the world changed since the sexual revolution broke out. The Bible said that the world would be similar to the times of Noah and Lot in the last days. Looks like another prophecy being fulfilled there.
Forget chocolate and ice cream and whatever other tidbit tickles your fancy. There is nothing that competes with the pleasure of sex. Why do we have to agonize over the context in which that pleasure is derived? Because it’s important to God. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, God invented sex. I think one of the strongest arguments against evolution involves the sexual and reproduction process. How was reproduction going on while sexual parts were evolving into existence? Why would that reproduction process change? And why is sex such a wonderful pastime? How could that type of ecstasy even be designed by a brilliant scientist, much less happen by chance? Couldn’t in my book. Anyway I digress. Because of the power and pleasure of sex, some people think anything goes. Not so fast I say if you want to separate yourself from the animals. I have no desire to just exist but choose to lead a meaningful life because of my Creator and His instructions. And so I really do get it when people object to chastity vows and claims that people should be celibate until married. And that doesn’t even address the homosexual issue or masturbation. Today, psychologists are content to veto any moral laws that could provoke shame and guilt. It’s one thing when non-believers embrace this philosophy. When I see Christians refusing to accept God’s guidelines on sex, it blows my mind. In submitting to Jesus we are supposed to die to self and give up the right to anything – except what He allows us to keep. The license to practice premarital sex is not one of those things that He’ll be giving anyone.
So I know I’m swimming upstream against a very strong current when I speak out for sexual purity. Fewer and fewer people seem to want to heed that advice to the point that I feel like John the Baptist or one of the prophets. I wouldn’t be surprised if people who open their mouth to denounce the sexual practices of mankind are put to death at some point in the future. After all, an enlightened progressive world can’t tolerate people who stand in the way of that progress.
In several search results I saw the word “creepy”. One headline read, “What’s creepier than father/daughter purity balls?” In a world filled with perversion, the simple honoring of God with our bodies is the most perverse thing imaginable. Pagan religions actually used sex in their worship services. The idea of giving up all of the delightful pleasure to honor and obey an unseen God just seems ridiculous to them. We’ll see what they think when they face God on judgment day. Everybody is going to see a drastic change in their attitude on that day.
Getting on board the chastity band wagon is not really hard. Walking the walk proves to be less easy. People like the Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and Avril Lavigne were on board but fell off during the bumpy ride along the road of life in the real world. Tim Tebow and Russell Wilson have been outspoken about their convictions in this area. Here’s a list of people who waited for marriage:
Love Waits was born out of a conversation I had with one of my friends concerning the peer pressure being put on kids to lose their virginity. This was totally news to me. But the big kicker was that she was not talking about high schoolers but rather junior high students. And so I decided to address the problem in this work, which was written as a novel originally. The screen play came along about four years later. This is not a story for those who wish to simply hide the topic of sex from their children. This might be a bit like a vaccine, exposing a child to the world of sex to show them that it is something they should avoid until marriage. If you strongly desire that your children remain pure until the altar, I recommend you get this movie and show it to them. It is now available at Christian Cinema Dot Com for streaming as a rental or purchase and as a DVD.
