It’s not even hump-day yet and Friday just seems worlds away at this point – so if you’re looking for a way to let loose this evening with some live and thriving metal music, look no further than The Varsity Theater in Baton Rouge where alternative metallers, Sevendust, will take the stage tonight.
After more than two decades since their formation and ten solid albums under their collective belt, Sevendust still manages to get better and better as the years go by. Kicking off their first U.S. headlining tour in support of their latest album Kill The Flaw, Sevendust will not only be conquering cities throughout the country one at a time but also taking over several music festivals while out on this run of dates. With performances locked in for Fort Rock, Welcome To Rockville, Carolina Rebellion, Northern Invasion, Rock On The Range, and Rock Derby in addition to their non-festival dates, there will be ample opportunity for fans of the band and music lovers alike to check these guys out live in the next few weeks.
With not only a worldwide, chart-topping new album under their wings, Sevendust is also still riding high on their first ever Grammy Award nomination as well. Acknowledged in the “Best Metal Performance” category, the stellar tune “Thank You” was nominated along with the heavy-hitting bands August Burns Red, Ghost, Lamb Of God, and Slipknot. Of the nomination, Sevendust vocalist, Lajon Witherspoon, commented: “…Even though we didn’t win the Grammy nomination was something you never take away – it was a big deal to us. We got to take our families and walk the red carpet and be among our peers, and you know, open that door – hoping it won’t be the last time and for us to one day win it. So, it was exciting and it’s still exciting.”
Between the band’s new and already well-loved material and the Grammy nomination to boot, the Sevendust guys are anxious to get out there for this headlining tour. But with 22 years of experience now and a ten-album cache of song to choose from, deciding on a set list can be somewhat of a daunting task. “Oh my god, it’s a nightmare,” Witherspoon laughed, “It’s not a scary nightmare, it’s more like a funny nightmare. Like, oh my god, what are we going to do?”
Then added: “So even right now we’re passing back and forth set lists for the headline run and it’s fun. We’ll try to get to everything, we’ll definitely have some new material also in there and tap into each album.” So Sevendust lovers will just have to get to one of these shows to see what the guys picked out for the set.
In recent years, Sevendust has performed sold out shows all over the planet including killer sets at shows like Rock On The Range, Woodstock, OZZfest, and Shiprocked. But Kill The Flaw has raised the bar for even this well established band – and it’s all just going to get more and more exciting from this point on. Make sure you’re a part of it!
The opening show of the tour is this evening at The Varsity Theatre which is located at 3353 Highland Road in Baton Rouge.
Doors open at 7 P.M. for this 18+ show, and the musical magic beings at 8. Special guests Trivium, Like A Storm, and Westfield Massacre will also take the stage for this ample night of live metal music.
