Cynthia Philip founded the Dexter and Friends Auction Group three years ago in order to provide resources for pets, their owners, rescuers and fosters. Dexter and Friends hosts online auctions to raise money for animals in need of medical care/medications, annual exams, food and other supplies. Not limited to helping dogs and cats, Dexter and Friends has also helped bunnies, ferrets, birds and even an iguana.
Now it is Cynthia’s turn: her beloved service dog, Dexter, passed away April 13, 2015 at 15 years of age, and Cynthia is very much in need of a service dog. Since Dexter’s passing, Cynthia has been doing her research and seeking her next service dog, to no avail: shelters and rescues told her, “We don’t have any suitable dog for what you are looking for.” To get a service dog from an organization costs upwards of $4000 and the waiting list is over 2 years.
Before Christmas, Cynthia reached an all time low – she was hospitalized and released, but had no interest in even leaving her house – until now. After researching various breeds of dogs that have been used for service dogs, she concluded that the Bernese Mountain Dog would be a very good fit. She researched different breeders to ensure that the breeder was fully registered and the health and blood lines were good.
Cynthia visited Windever Kennels, a family-run kennel whose pups go home with a lifetime, no question, take back guarantee: ‘We never, ever want one of our pups to need rescuing!‘. Cynthia met Miya and her puppies; the puppies don’t come cheaply; $2000 is needed to pay for the puppy, which will be ready to come home to Cynthia during the first or second week of April.
