The Serena Williams vs. Kerber live stream online and televised tennis match will be for all the glory, as the Australian Open 2016 women’s final matchup goes down Saturday. It will be an early viewing time for United States tennis fans who want to catch the conclusion of the tournament for the women, with the men’s edition to follow a day later. Can Serena continue her typical dominance at these events, or will Angelique Kerber pull off the upset this year to claim an early-season championship? The 2016 Australian Open live streaming and televised action comes via ESPN networks early Saturday.
According to BBC Sports Tennis in their Jan. 29 report, Williams is aiming at yet another record in her legendary career when she goes for her 22nd career Grand Slam title on Sunday. If she gets it, she’d tie the mark set by another legend of the game, Steffi Graf. Serena took home three out of four Grand Slam titles last year and nearly achieved the calendar Grand Slam. On Saturday she draws Angelique Kerber who has been playing brilliantly in the tournament this year. Most recently she downed Great Britain’s Johanna Konta 7-5, 6-2 in the semifinals. Serena bested Agnieskza Radwanska 6-0, 6-4 to finish her path to the finals.
Prior to that, Williams defeated her rival Maria Sharapova by a final of 6-4, 6-1, while Kerber defeated Victoria Azarenka 6-3, 7-5. Other opponents these two faced include Kerber defeating Annika Beck 6-4, 6-0 and Serena taking out Margarita Gasparyan 6-2, 6-1. Serena has been the odds on favorite to win this year’s edition of the tournament, which is no surprise, as she is usually favored to win most events she competes in. The No. 7 Kerber may be more of a surprise for the women’s side, although the draw put Maria Sharapova in Serena’s path for the quarterfinals.
For Sunday’s matchup, Serena is a -770 favorite, while Kerber is a +535 underdog. The two have gone head-to-head a total of six times dating back to the US Open in 2007. Serena owns the advantage 5-1, with her most recent win coming back in 2014 at Stanford finals 7-6(1), 6-3. Kerber’s only win over the women’s No. 1 player came back in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Cincinnati Masters 6-4, 6-4, with Serena having now won four-straight meetings between these two women’s tennis stars.
