On April 22, 2016, fans, guests and stars could be seen at the Ft. Myers Beach Film Festival (FMBFF). The 10th annual festival kicked off officially on April 20, running through April 24. The opening ceremony began in front of Beach Theater in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida with a healthy turn out of actors, production members, plus anyone and everyone who enjoys all things entertainment. Actress Rena Sofer, plus the cast and crew of award-winning “The Hanging Millstone,” were a few of the many participants at the SW Florida film fest.
Many others in attendance included producer and actress Judy Copeland of “The Bright Side,” and “Happy Family,” award-winning actress Rena Sofer of “Immunity,” and, with his award-winning film as well, Curtis Collins of “The Hanging Millstone.” After the screenings, representatives for each film went up front to share about their various film projects. A Q&A followed.
The FMBFF presenting sponsors are Beach Theater, The Beaches of Ft. Myers-Sanibel, Ft. Myers Beach Friends of the Arts, and The Town of Ft. Myers Beach. Their silver screen sponsor is TPI Hospitality. The locations used are Lovers Key Resort, The Dolphin Inn Resort, Lighthouse Resort Inn & Suites, and Sea Gypsy Inn Resort. Fish-Tale Marina was the location for the screening party and closing ceremony.
The Rising Star Award went to Peter Pardini of “Now More Than Ever: The History of Chicago.” The Star Achievement Award was presented to actress Rena Sofer. Her background includes soaps “Another World,” “General Hospital,” Melrose Place,” including shows “Just Shoot Me!,” “Traffic,” “Once Upon A Time,” and many others.
“I’m a character actress, but it doesn’t mean I can’t do leading roles. I don’t think of myself as a leading lady, but if you need me for a role contact my agent. You might be surprised, but we actors are usually reachable.” – Rena Sofer
One of the sources of the many talent used in films seen screened at FMBFF is the United Film & Television Artists (UFTA) organization. Dr. Joe Reyes is the president of UFTA, and has been a part of two of the films screened at FMBFF. One of his many talents is that of being a drone pilot. Reyes, with daughter Cassidy, was in attendance for this year’s film fest’s opening ceremony.
Due to a sell out of the Local Films Screenings Package, it was offered again. “The Hanging Millstone” was among those local shorts. Workshops and a hospitality room were available at the festival too, and the Outrigger Beach Resort hosted an outdoor screening of Disney’s “Inside Out.” There was a boat excursion on April 21.
“I already know that our short film, “The Hanging Millstone,” is making a difference concerning parents being more aware of their children’s safety. Imagine what the feature version will do!” – Curtis Collins, Film Screenwriter, Director & Producer
