“Harry Potter” publisher Scholastic has revealed some of the art for the new fully illustrated edition of “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” to be released this fall.
Like “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” released last year, illustrations were once again done by artist Jim Kay. The cover was revealed exclusively by BuzzFeed on Wednesday, as well as an insert of Dumbledore’s phoenix, Fawkes. The cover is reminiscent of the original, featuring Harry and Ron traveling to Hogwarts in a flying Ford Anglia.
Interactive website Pottermore also has a look at the new illustrations, including ones of Hagrid, Hogwarts castle, and mandrakes.
“Seeing Jim Kay’s illustrations moved me profoundly,” writer J.K. Rowling said of last year’s “Sorcerer’s Stone” illustrations. “I love his interpretation of Harry Potter’s world, and I feel honoured and grateful that he has lent his talent to it.”
The new illustrated versions of the “Harry Potter” series are being released jointly by publishers Bloomsbury and Scholastic. The rest of the books will follow over the next few years.
“Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” will be released Oct. 4 and will feature 115 full-color illustrations.
