Schechter School of Long Island is a Jewish day school whose mission it is to educate and empower its students to be critical thinkers, ethical leaders as well as globally engaged citizens who strive to achieve their full potential of a vibrant Jewish future. Now the school’s wonderful annual gala is being held on Thursday, March 31, 2015 at Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation which is located at 21 Old Westbury Road, Old Westbury, New York. The evening’s festivities include a dinner reception from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., a program in the sanctuary from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and dessert and dancing from 9:30 p.m.to 11:00 p.m.
It is the Schechter’s school’s core values which support the school’s mission and become the essence of each student’s identity which will guide them through each stage of their life. So those core values begin with Torah. The Schechter School instills a love of lifelong learning where questions are as valued as are answers. Then with Ahavat Yisrael, the school fosters a love and commitment to the state, language and people of Israel as central to Jewish identify and continuity. Then with Kehila, the school celebrates the individuality and diversity within the Schechter School of Long Island and fosters an inclusive and caring community. With Mitzvot, the school sanctifies God’s presence in each student’s life through the observance of Jewish practice and in Gemilut Chasadim, the school engages their students in thoughtful acts of loving kindness and generosity.
