The Scappoose Police Department offers 24 hour police coverage to the citizens of Scappoose and, when requested, assistance to other area law enforcement agencies. Chief Norm Miller was named as head of the department in 2014, after working as an officer since 1999. Officers with Scappoose PD respond to a variety of calls every week, including public assistance calls, welfare checks, to investigate traffic issues (including motor vehicle crashes) and to investigate alarms, among other calls.
The department accepts applications for the police reserve program and is heavily involved in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.
During the week of March 21- March 25, officers responded to a variety of calls, which are outlined below.
March 21 — Scappoose Municipal Court — Police arrested Kevin Eakin, 37, for an outstanding municipal court warrant.
March 21 — 51000 block of S. Columbia River Highway — Officers responded to a suspicious person call at Fred Meyer. After an investigation, Abigail Smith, 25 was arrested for 5 outstanding warrants and false information to a police officer.
March 22 — 51000 block of SE 6th Street — Police responded to a reportedly suicidal subject. Alexander Dotter, 19, was arrested for violation of a restraining order, coercion and harassment, following and investigation.
March 22 — East Columbia Ave., and Columbia River Highway — Officers investigated a non-injury traffic crash.
March 22 — 52000 block of Miller Road — Two juveniles were cited for minor in possession of tobacco after a premise check at Miller Park.
March 23 — 33000 block of SW Mountain Way — Police investigated a domestic in progress. Daniel Wallin, 27, was arrested for burglary, aggravated assault, reckless endangering, vandalism, carrying a concealed weapon and prohibited possession of a weapon.
March 23 — 51000 block of SE 2nd Street — Police assisted the Oregon State Police at a traffic stop.
March 23 — EJ Smith Road near NW 1st Street — officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested Sheana Mitchell, 19, for unlawful possession of schedule 1 drugs, possession of a controlled substance – marijuana (less than an ounce), possession of a controlled substance- methamphetamine, and driving while suspended.
March 24 — 33000 block of SE Havlik Drive — Investigation of an audible alarm at the Shell gas station.
March 25 — 33000 block of Rolling Hills Drive — Report of lost or mislaid property.
March 25 — SE 6th Street near SE Frederick Street —Shawn Dortch, 47, was arrested for driving under the influence and reckless driving after a traffic stop.
