The House of Palin is in another family feud. Again, it’s over daughter Bristol Palin, her newborn baby daughter Sailor Grace and her ex Dakota Meyer. Matriarch (and former Alaska governor, Tea Party founder and Republican vice-presidential hopeful) Sarah Palin slammed baby daddy Dakota Meyer on trying to “save face” on the Bristol Palin fail, said US Weekly on Jan. 6. How did the U.S. Marine drop the ball on Palin family? Dakota and Bristol were set to marry, when suddenly the wedding was called off. Shortly afterwards, Bristol announced she was pregnant, but would not say who the baby daddy was. Sailor Grace is the second child Bristol Palin–a fundamentalist Christian right winger and paid abstinence advocate–has birthed. When she found out she was pregnant again, still had no ring on it and a fiance in rear view mirror, Bristol got a little–understandably–techy. She and Meyer both stayed mum on whether he–or someone else–had made her a mum again.
Then baby was born and Bristol Palin posted birth photos of Sailor Grace online (herself all made up and looking a lot more posed than someone who has just had a baby, but the author digresses). Anyway, Dakota Meyer suddenly chimes in, reposts the photos–it’s not clear where he got them–and claims to be the long-lost baby daddy. Talk about another country heard from–Meyer has not only claimed paternity but is seeking joint custody. So all’s well that ends well? Well, not really, according to Grandma Sarah Palin. She says Meyer “abandoned” Bristol in her hour of need. She implied that when he found out her daughter was expecting he skedaddled. Sarah Palin wrote that for for many months they had “been trying to reach out to Dakota Myers [sic] and he has wanted nothing to do with either Bristol’s pregnancy or the baby.”
Overlooking yet another Sarah Palin blooper (failing to say or spell her almost future son-in-law’s last name correctly), is she right? Or doth the lady protest too much? Bristol is the one who refused to name the baby daddy in the first place. That could have been because Meyer wouldn’t take responsibility and she didn’t want to make a bigger fool of herself (after the whole abstinence queen debacle) by pressing the issue. The concern it is that Dakota Meyer is just cashing in on the notoriety surrounding the Palins. As Bristol’s legal rep rather enigmatically put it “My values are such that a real American hero doesn’t ask for child support.”
Was he suggesting that Meyer would get child support for Sailor Grace from Bristol Palin? Surely it would be the other way around or no one would pay child support in joint custody. It seems having a baby daddy would be in mother’s and child’s best interests. So why is Sarah Palin so all-fired mad that Dakota Meyer is filing for custody? Unless Bristol knows someone else is the real baby daddy and isn’t telling? Either way, Sailor Grace has a father, unless she was immaculately conceived…After all, she was born a few days before Christmas!
