Idris Alba made history at the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The actor won two SAG awards at the Shrine Auditorium on Saturday, Jan 30 for his roles in “Luther” and “Beasts of No Nation”. “Ladies and gentleman welcome to diverse tv”. Idris Alba said to the audience, while accepting his award for his performance in “The Beasts of No Nation.” #SAGSSOBLACK started trending on twitter after the big wins.
“Diversity is not a trending topic”. Viola Davis stated while talking about the hottest topic plaguing the industry. The SAG awards celebrated diversity with several awards going to actors of color. Viola Davis, Queen Latifah, Uzo Adubo and the cast of “Orange is the New Black” all took home trophies in the wake of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.
Leonardo DiCaprio won his first SAG award after nine nominations.
The actor is considered a favorite to win his first Academy Award. Brie Larson also won a SAG award for her performance in “Room”.
Here is a rundown of the fashion on the red carpet. Alicia Vikander wore our favorite look of the night. “The Danish Girl” actress sparkled in a 70’s inspired metallic sequin Louis Vuitton gown with a mondrian color blocked pattern.
Bright colors were also a big trend. Sofia Vergara wore a mermaid cut pink Vera Wang gown with Jimmy Choo clutch and shoes. She added a statement necklace by David Webb. Sarah Hyland wore a J. Mendel gown with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Giuseppe Zanotti heels.
Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke also opted to wear a pink frock. Eva Longoria flaunted her flawless figure in an embellished green Julien Macdonald gown. The daring number had a plunging neckline and an open back. The Telenovela star accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
Brie Larson was stunning in a powder blue Versace dress which was fresh off the runway. The actress paired her outfit with Tiffany jewels and Roger Vivier heels. SAG winner Viola Davis looked lovely in a lavender Zac Posen gown. Rachel McAdams opted for a lace LBD. The Spotlight actress wore a sheer floral Elie Saab gown with Brian Atwood heels and more than one million dollars worth of Harry Kotlar jewels.
Saoirse Ronan wore a pale pink Michael Kors gown. The Brooklyn actress accessorized with Forevermark winged earrings with round brilliant diamonds set in 18k White Gold. She also added Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Kate Winslet wore an Armani dress and Jimmy Choo heels. Tina Fey wore a red Prabal Gurung gown and Jimmy Choo heels. The 30 Rock actress sparkled with $770,000 worth of Mouwad 18k white gold diamond jewelry.
Queen Latifah wore a Michael Costello gown. The Bessie actress accessorized with a Rauwolf bag. Kiernan Shipka wore Erdem. Kristen Wiig wore Roland Mouret with Miu Miu shoes and a Jimmy Choo accessorizes. Anna Faris in Naeem Khan and a Stuart Weitzman bag. Laverne Cox also wore a Prabal Gurung gown. The Orange is the New Black actor accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Stuart Weitzman shoes.
Naomi Watts wore a Burberry dress and Bulgari jewels. Helen Mirren opted for Jenny Packham. Amy Poehler wore Stella McCartney. Uzo Adubo accepted her award in a Zac Posen gown. There were a few fashion missteps by actresses who tried to wear outfits that didn’t compliment them. Julianne Moore wore an ill fitting green Givenchy gown and Chopard jewelry. Nicole Kidman wore an uncomplimentary rainbow colored Gucci gown. Kate Mara wore an unflattering Valentino gown and Forevermark jewels. Sarah Paulson also made the worst dressed list in a multi-colored Armani Prive dress and Brian Atwood shoes.
