Springtime is upon us and it’s time to shake off the winter dust. If you and your horses are looking for some horseback fun in and around the greater Salt Lake area, we have a great assortment of interesting activities taking place during the months of March and April, 2016. Here are just a handful of the upcoming options to show or clinic in the area:
The spacious and well-appointed Pegasus Event Center in Grantsville has a great selection of competitive events and educational clinics coming up! Their second Jumper show of the season will be held next Saturday, March 19, with their first western show of 2016 to follow the next weekend, on Saturday March 26. For those who like even more excitement, a faster pace and plenty of stimulating outdoor activity, check out Pegasus’ Extreme Horseman’s Challenge, scheduled for April 1-2.
For English riders who would like to increase their equestrian skills and further their jumping prowess, Pegasus Event Center will host another of their very popular Wayne Quarles clinics from April 8 through April 10, 2016. If you would like to participate in any of the shows or the clinic at Pegasus Event Center, you can email the event center at email@example.com, or mail in your entry forms, which can be printed off their website at www.pegasuseventcenter.com. The address and easy directions to their Grantsville facility (just 35 minutes west of Salt Lake City) can be found on the website as well.
Copper Hills Equestrian Center, located just southwest of Salt Lake City in Herriman, will host the “Cookie Classic” schooling show tomorrow, Saturday March 12. Sign up opens at 8 a.m. with the show classes starting at 10 a.m. The entry fee is just $5 per class, plus a $5 office fee per horse. All breeds are welcome, as are riders of all ages and experience levels. There will be classes for English, Western and Reining as well as in-hand Halter classes. No fancy show kits required; wear your comfortable clothing (long pants and boots required). Training tack is just fine. Helmets are required for all youth riders (18 and under) and recommended for adults. The facility address is 5156 West, 12600 South in Herriman.
Want to try out some real ranch activity? Visit the Utah Ranch Sorting organization’s website to learn more and view their event schedule. The Wasatch County Event Complex up in Heber will host this year’s first event, on March 25 and 26, including divisions for all ages! This is a lot of fun for the entire family.
Next month (April 23), Vista Farms in West Jordan will hold their much-anticipated spring show. Unlike the full series of the past, 2016 will allow riders to experience extra fun and win fabulous prizes at the spring and fall shows. Saddles (No kidding; saddles!) will be awarded to the top ranking riders in adult and youth divisions at both shows, as well as the usual ribbons (first – fifth place) and a trophy for those who win either of the trophy classes. This year there will even be a trail class (both in-hand and under saddle)! Check out the Vista Farms’ website for a class list, address, directions and additional information. Sign up opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday April 23 and the show begins with English classes at 10 in the morning. The entry fee is $10 per class plus a $5 office fee. The grounds fee is waived for both 2016 events! No special show apparel or fancy tack are required. Wear long pants, any shirt or top (even clean t-shirts are okay), boots with a low heel and a helmet* and you’re good to go. The Vista Farms fun shows are always fun for riders of any age and experience level! All breeds are welcome. *Helmets are required for ALL riders under 18.
