Queen of Peace jumped to an early lead against Saddle River Day.Forever Toppin did a great job face-guarding Saddle River Day’s Michelle Sidor until she fell into foul trouble. She held Sidor to 0 points for the first four minutes, but picked up fouls in the meantime. At the end of the first quarter Queen of Peace led 15-13.
Queen of Peace’s Raven Farley-Clark proved to be one of the best centers in Bergen County. She had great awareness around the basket and was able to go up easily with either hand. She worked hard to rebound and did a good job anticipating to block shots. She finished with 13 rebounds, 2 steals, 5 blocked shots, 1 assist, and 20 points. Queen of Peace led at the half-time 34-28.
Saddle River Day had a great third quarter. Despite being double and triple teamed Sidor still pumped out 23 points. She is great reading the defense and knows when to shoot, when to drive, and when to pass off to open teammates. She also had 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Carly Christofi played smart from the outside. She knew when to pass and when to shoot. She had 8 points and 2 rebounds. Saddle River Day led at the end of the third quarter 51-49.
Queen of Peace’s Asonah Alexander is one of the best freshman in the county. She has confidence and is smart with the ball. She can explode off the first step to fly to the basket. She is great an engaging defenders and passing off to open teammates. She had 3 rebounds, 1 blockedshot, 1 steal, 6 assists,and 12 points. Sydney Watkins had a great game. She contributed by playing the point and the two-guard. She used her strength to protect the ball and draw fouls. She had 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 13 points. DeeDee Salas had several critical outside shots that kept Queen of Peace in the game.
Saddle River Day’s Jenna Jordan is going to be a tough post in the years to come. As a freshman she has good basket awareness and is strong. She finished with 8 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, 1 assist, and 8 points. Senior guard Daniella McMahon is willing to sacrifice her body to earn steals and tips. She had 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 blocked shot, 3 steals, and 13 points. With three seconds remaining on the clock Queen of Peace had the ball at the half-court and was down by 1 point. The inbound pass went to the point guard, but Jackie Wolak stole it and pushed to score a full-court lay-up at the buzzer to give Saddle River Day a three-point win.
