On Saturday morning Feb. 27, 2016, Colorado served up a warm, breezy and unusually hospitable day for a winter race at the Pikes Peak Road Runners (PPRR) Winter Series IV 10K and 20K runs. The final leg of the Winter Series was held at Wolford Elementary School in Black Forest, where the series was born in 1979.
Tommy Manning, age 39 of Colorado Springs won his second consecutive victory in the long run with a time of 1:18:46, while 26 year old Kristina Mascarenas of Colorado Springs captured first place for the women in the 20K distance with a time of 1:28:44. This was also Kristina’s third first place win in the long distance category of races. Robby Young, age 30 of Colorado Springs claimed first place overall for the Fieldhouse Brewing Company running team in the 10K distance with a time of 35:25, while 30 year old Alexis Wilbert of Colorado springs captured first place for the women and the Ute Valley Mountain Thugs with a time of 39:17. Alexis also set new course and age group records, beating the previous high mark set in 2013 by Katie Rainsberger age 14 of Colorado Springs.
With the completion of all four events in the series, the times for the entire series will be tallied and the champions announced at the awards banquet at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs on Mar. 5, 2016. Be sure to consult the official Winter Series web page for all the details.
