Arrival Experience: Just a couple of blocks from Times Square, the brand new Cambria Hotel and Suites is an excellent high-rise operation in the heart of midtown and appeals evenly to both business and leisure travelers. The revolving door opens to a bright and airy lobby with a friendly reception team. Seating across from the front desk is a great place to unfurl a map or read the paper before heading out. Two elevators, activated by key cards, rise to the spacious accommodations.
Dining: Both breakfast and dinner menus are served in the hotel with hot and cold dishes available. Fare is modestly priced. With so many choices for dining in the area, it seems that mostly solo business travelers were placing an order. Breakfast hours are busier, and a coffee station is available by reception each morning. On the other side of the lobby, a bar and lounge setup offers a range of cocktails, beer, and wine plus a bistro menu. Outdoor seating in front of the hotel is surely popular in warm weather although it was freezing during my visit.
Rooms: The Cambria brand is an upscale, business-focused brand within the Choice Hotels portfolio, and this property demonstrates the lengths designers undertook to appeal to that category of travelers. King beds are coated with a duvet and quadruple pillows. On either side of the bed are ample power outlets and USB ports for overnight charging. An alarm clock is bright enough to see in the dark. Facing the bed is a wall-mounted flat-screen TV, which helps to save space. A spacious work desk has a row of power outlets of its own plus a rolling desk chair moves effortlessly over the hardwood floors. A coffee maker is stocked with Wolfgang Puck brews, and free wireless Internet is available in all rooms. The closet is cleverly designed and holds a refrigerator, safe, and ample storage space. Bathrooms feature excellent lighting, glass shower stalls, and Bath & Body Works toiletries.
Amenities: A fitness center and meeting room are available to guests. Housekeeping does a fantastic job keeping the rooms and compact hallways looking perfect. The price is just right at this affordable, midtown hotel that is fresh, contemporary, and modern. Travelers can also collect points within the Choice Privileges program, which can be redeeemed for free nights. While the rooms are well-stocked with facilities, it is the exceptionally affable staff that makes this a winner.
