Riff Raff Brewing Company is located in a charming, historic Victorian building that sits on Pagosa St. as you enter from the east side of town. There are a trio of breweries that call Pagosa Springs home, but Riff Raff is one not to miss due to its excellent year round ales, and many seasonal beers to keep things fresh.
Six flagship beers stand as the brews you can enjoy anytime you roll into Pagosa. Hop heads will fall in love with their Hopgoblin American IPA, but rest easy universal beer lovers, there are plenty more to choose from. The other five are made up of Man’s Best Friend American-style Honey Kölsch, Plebeian Porter, Skallywag English Pale, Stepchild American Red and El Duende Green Chile Ale.
You can check out their list of seasonal beer over on their site, just know it’ll vary depending on the time of the year you visit. It’ll depend on your tastes, but their Hopgoblin American IPA is a refreshing, yet hoppy delivery to the already crowded IPA population of Colorado breweries. But even if you’ve had one great IPA, there is nothing like tasting a fantastic, new IPA and Hopgoblin surely is that.
Riff Raff’s English Pale is an interesting take on another popular beer type in the state. It stands apart from many with its bold malt flavor, but still remains pale with the hoppy finish you will find. The brew is balanced exceptionally well, doesn’t overwhelm with its hops and comes across as a surprisingly unique take on the Pale Ale formula.
For those light beer drinkers who don’t dabble in the hoppy world of IPAs and Pale Ales, Man’s Best Friend is a deliciously refreshing Kölsch that doesn’t overpower you with high alcohol content, plus it’ll make you smile with a clean finish. Much like other Kölsch ales on the market, Man’s Best Friend possesses a high level of drinkability and enables beer drinkers to enjoy a few during a meal or after work with friends.
Lastly, the Stepchild American Red also presents a unique take compared to the rest of its beer type brethren. The malt does provide a nice compliment to the overall ale, however it is the hops that make this American Red stand apart from the rest. If you are a fan of Red Ales, who doesn’t mind a hoppy interlude, this is an excellent choice for you.
Riff Raff Brewing Company has a vast variety of other ales for beer drinkers to choose from, no matter the type of beer preference you have. Even if you aren’t a beer drinker, they still have you covered with other beverages such as cocktails and wine.
The brewery does serve a variety of hearty food options in case you find yourself in need of a little fare to soak up the booze. Riff Raff has a very friendly and helpful staff that will guide you through whatever questions you have, and they provide timely, but not overbearing service. If you’re ever in the Pagosa area, we highly recommend making a stop at Riff Raff Brewing Company.
