Rhamphorhynchus was a long-tailed pterosaur of the so-called Jurassic Period (secular scientists believe this period of time is when Rhamphorhynchus lived). Rhamphorhynchus name means “beak jaw”. It had a wingspan of 3 feet with a body about the sized of a robin. It had a long tail stiffened with ligaments which ended in a diamond-shaped vane. This tail made it unique from all other pterosaurs which had very small tails or no tails at all.
Rhamphorhynchus probably ate fish. It is believed that one of the ways it hunted was by dragging its beak in the water, catching fish and tossing them into its throat pouch, similar to that of a pelican. This throat pouch has been preserved in some fossils of Rhamphorhynchus. Although fossils have been found in England, the best preserved fossils of Rhamphorhynchus are found at the Solnhofen Quarry in Bavaria. Many of these fossils show very excellent preservation of the bones and some even have impressions of soft tissue.
In Isaiah 30:6, the Holy Bible mentions fiery flying serpents along with animals we see today, such as the lion, viper, and camel. “The burden of the beasts of the south ; into the land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the young and the old lion, the viper and the fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.” (Isaiah 30:6),(King James Bible)
The fiery flying serpents were reddish copper in color. The word for fiery is “saraph” in Hebrew which means copper color. For centuries, there has been reports coming out of Africa and Arabia, about small reddish flying reptiles. The Greek explorer Herodotus also described these creatures which sound amazingly like a small Rhamphorhynchus. They had the same snake-like body and bat-like wings. Herodotus was taken to a canyon were he saw many piles of bones of these creatures. Herodotus was amazed at what he saw in the spice groves in large numbers. Aristotle, a well known Greek philosopher, said that in his time these creatures were know to exist in Ethiopia (Africa). Similar animals were described by geographer Strabo, to live in India. In the Arabian Sea region there has been numerous sightings of these creatures. They call them “Arabhar”.
The Bible speaks of fiery flying serpents. Rhamphorhynchus could be a possible candidate. There is only fossilized bones and skin impressions of the creature. Unfortunately, scientists do not actually know what color Rhamphorhynchus was. God created Rhamphorhynchus on the fifth day of creation week and Isaiah, a prophet of God wrote about them. If fiery flying serpents were not real, God would not of grouped them with other modern day animals. We need to give God the glory and thanks for creating this creature.
